Five hundred years ago it would have been a religious centre (although never as big as nearby Salisbury). These days "tourist trap" is a better description. People who are feeling spiritual are more likely to carry on down the road to Glastonbury.
Neither of the other two castles are used as castles in the modern era either. This seems like a pedantic discussion about something being called a cathedral somehow not being religious.

Alnwick Castle is still used for living in.

Describing something as a "big religious centre" suggests a place teaming with faithful pilgrims, not tourists with cameras. And it's not actually that big. Wells is a city on the technicality of having a Cathedral, but is actually a small to middling town, and the Cathedral itself is significantly smaller than nearby Salisbury Cathedral. The Bishop's Palace is big, showing just how wealthy the medieval church was. It's now a garden.
