Also a mistake the article makes is that you have to start out holding two light weapons so you can not start out welding a shield and scimitar. Second shields are not part of the ability to draw or stow a weapon when you make an attack using your attack action. Lastly I believe the ability to draw or stow a weapon only counts for attacks made using the attack action so not for spell that use weapon strikes, reaction, or bonus action attack.

Yep, assuming it’s like the playtest, you can draw or stow one weapon when you make an attack as part of the Attack action. The extra attacks you get from the Light property and the dual wielder feat are not part of the Attack action. So, if you don’t have Extra Attack, you won’t have enough swaps available in a turn to pull this off. If you do have Extra Attack, you could do the following:

1. With a two light weapons drawn, at least one of which has the Nick property, take the Attack action. Attack with one of the light weapons, and then stow that weapon as part of the attack.
2. Use the Nick property to attack with the other light weapon.
3. Use your Extra Attack, drawing a one-handed weapon that lacks the Light property as part of the attack, and attack with that weapon.
4. Use your bonus action to attack with the one-handed weapon.

On the following round, you’ll have the one-handed weapon and the Light weapon equipped, so you will have to:

1. Use the Attack action to attack with the one-handed weapon, then stow it as part of the attack.
2. Use your Extra Attack with your drawn Light weapon, drawing your second Light weapon as part of the attack.
3. Use the Nick property to make another attack with the second Light weapon
4. Use your bonus action to attack with one of your Light weapons.

You end up making 4 attacks per turn, alternating between two light weapon attacks on one round and two one-handed weapon attacks on odd-numbered rounds, and three light weapon attacks and one one-handed weapon attack on even-numbered rounds.

There’s no way to get the non-light weapon in two hands, and no reason not to match it to your primary damage stat (so longsword for Strength users, rapier for Dex users).

okay someone with the books help me out here... forget weapon swapping cheese...

say my monk at level 5 has gotten a weapon mastery... he has 2 scimitars and attacks, how many attacks can he make?
Monks don’t get weapon mastery, so are we talking Monk 4/[martial class] 1, or Monk 5/[martial class] 1?

I may be wrong, but i was told I could pick up mastery with a feat, not sure if it's an origin feat or a 4th level one.

for now just assume I have monk levels, and extra attack feature and a nick useable weapon...

You'd get 3. Two from your attack action with extra attack, one with your offhand weapon from Light and Nick.

If you also had the Dual Wielder Feat, you could then make a FOURTH attack as a bonus action. However, you're a Monk, so you don't need that. You can already make a buffed unarmed strike as a bonus action.

High level monk with two scimitars can make six attacks in one round. Three as part of the Attack Action, and three as part of Flurry of Blows.

A high level Fighter can make a total of Six Attacks if they have the Dual Wielder Feat. Four normal, plus one from Nick and Light, plus a Bonus Action Attack if they have the Duel Wielder Feat.

I actually like this change, despite the weird shenanigans with swapping weapons. It makes two weapon fighting viable. Build your character specifically for it and they get a bunch of extra attacks, which is great if you've got, like, a Flametongue or something that does extra damage on each hit. Or for a Champion with the increased threat range.
