D&D (2024) We have Arcane, Divine, and Primal lists now. Why not Psionic?

They should have a psionics spell list, I even suggested the Bard should be a class that uses it, but I know they just aren't going to bother for the PHB.
That's pretty much what Pathfinder 2 does, though it's called the Occult spell list. Psychic classes also use that list, but cast their spells in a somewhat different manner.

Likely will get a Psionic Spell List later on when they NEED to tackle Psionics in a more extensive way for Dark Sun.

Relatively easy to add a spell list in a campaign setting or a rules expansion book, and say that Bards can choose Psionic Magic instead of Arcane, Divine, or Primal Magic. (and imho, they should let Sorcerers do the thing too).

I mean, I don’t disagree, but since it’s clear that they’re not going to do that, and since spell lists are seemingly going to be by power source in 2024, a psionic list seems like the obvious way to go. Yet we don’t see it in the playtest.
Even if a Psion class isnt in the 2024 Players Handbook, they can be laying the groundwork for it to work.

I'm not a fan of psionics in D&D, and I'm not saying that because I want to be a jerk in this thread, I'm just wanting to be forthright here. But I'm in agreement with you, if you're going to have psionics then it should be different from regular spellcasting. Otherwise what's the point?
It's people like this guy who make me wonder why I bother with this game.

Personally, I don't have a beef with the existence of psionics per se. I have a beef with the requirements for "real psionics" that a lot of psionics fans will list. Stuff like that it should be free of VSM components, because it's purely magic of the mind, or that it should be an entirely different category than "magic", meaning all the existing bonuses to resist magical effects don't apply.

That's the sort of stuff that just completely ruins game balance if it were to be instituted.
The RPG Shadowdark is a successful kickstarter that has a buzz. It is old school simplicity with new school mechanics and sensitivities.

I am impressed with the mechanics.

For the sake of making the game simpler, and removing superfluous mechanics, it deletes all of the spell components from every spell description. There are no costly components. There are no material components. No verbal. No somatic.

A character uses actions to cast spells, and players visualize it how they want.

It is a breath of fresh air.

Every class is better without spell components. The game is better without spell components.

The mechanical balance works fine. Because the components never had anything to do with consistent balance − especially in 5e components fail to serve any balancing function.

The game is clean and fresh and fun and easy without ever seeing a spell component ever again.

I continue to be unimpressed with the three big, dumb lists system, and every additional list added just makes the combined list system make less sense. Unless they are actually going to add classes later on in this iteration, I think every class should just have a class spell list as per the current, unbroken system. And unless multiple types of characters are going to use a "psionics" list than they should just add a class specific list if and when the psion, mystic, or whatever arrives (assuming they just cast spells, which is obviously its own can of worms).

Did it not ever occur to just...stop using the VSM stuff? My group abandoned that 5 years ago lol.
