There's also some question as to whether the drive is viable en masse at all. Can the mycelial network sustain constant usage by thousands of starships?

It has sustained significant damage, and nearly been destroyed, from just one starship using badly it in the past. So while I'm fine with the Discovery using it, I am hoping they don't turn that into a general replacement for Warp Drive.

Also, I'm not sure whether they mentioned that little unintentional six-month time skip they made coming back from the mirror universe, but it's possible that the spore drive may contravene the Temporal Accords.

A good episode this week. A bit of Die Hard combined with giving some unexpected depth to the Emerald Chain.

I particularly liked Admiral Vance's explanation of the replicated food. Basically saying "we would literally rather eat crap than compromise our principles."

I actually find that a bit disappointing... nearly a thousand years of tech advancement, and that is what they are reduced to.

It's not particularly what they're reduced to - I'm pretty sure it's always been the case that most waste products on a starship go into the matter banks for the replicators. This is just the first time it's been stated outright on the show.

And it's actually pretty amazing fantasy tech . . . being able to recycle waste into edible food.

@Truth Seeker, part of the whole point of this season is that the future Federation is severely weakened from it's zenith. Not just in member worlds, but in resources and tech. Making replicated food out of poop reflects that.

And, it gave Vance the best line of the season, and Ossyra the best reaction! :)

They made an episode out of my adventure!

They made an episode out of my adventure!

It most strongly resembles TNG's "Starship Mine", which also has a lone protagonist fighting Die Hard style to regain control of the ship, while the ensemble cast work to free themselves from the captors holding them hostage.
