The ones I have been reading and watching seem to think Abrams & co are more interested in race changing than actually creating something that would be worth watching.
It would be nice to discover whether this is the case or rather they're actually using Icon or Calvin Ellis or whoever he's called.

Calvin Ellis is still called Superman, he's just an alt universe version.

Personally I'd rather see a Vixen movie then a Superman movie. Superman is boring no matter what the race. Superman is only interesting on Robot Chicken.

Black Superman doesn't mean black Clark Kent, Black Superman in DC comics is Calvin Ellis who is also President of the United States in an alternate universe, so Henry might get to keep his job after all.

Oh I know, but the announcement I saw states that they are doing a Black Kal-el.

Yes, he's Calvin Ellis.

Edit: To clarify, he's still Kal-el (or technically I think "Kalel" in this alternate universe), but he has a different experience on Earth than the original Kal-El, and so has a different alternate identity.

I haven’t seen anyone reporting any hint of Calvin rather than Clark.
It may be mainstream news outlets getting geek stuff wrong, or making assumptions.
And again...so what? Does Clark need to be white for his story to make sense? No. There are Black farmers in the US. A Black farm kid turned reporter is...not a strange backstory.
True enough. This may become more of a re-imagining of the Superman story than an Elseworlds story. I think most audiences today can grok the idea of alternate/parallel universes, but they may decide to stick to the traditional Superman story. Personally, I would rather see an Elseworlds type story, but I am a big fan of alternate universe stories. :)
