The company WotC/Hasbro should have gotten to do the D&D movie is Sony if you go by how well Sony did this year Ghostbusters Afterlife, Spiderman: No Way Home, and Venom 2, Sony ruled 2021.

Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man in movies, but No Way Home was actually made by Marvel. Sony is just sitting back collecting money on that one.

No, Marvel invested about 25% in the movie, but it's very much a Sony movie.
Not so sure about that. The deal is usually characterized as Marvel producing the film for Sony with Sony bearing the brunt of the cost (75% in this case) as well as reaping the same proportion of the revenue. And that's been a winning strategy for them so far.

Have you read the internet?! Most people "know" that anyone who plays D&D differently to them is having badwrongfun.

People will complain that it is too serious/not serious enough/has a framing device/has no frame/Lord Nasher's beard is too long/short etc etc etc
I keep reading comments like these and they depict a situation completely counter to what I experience, especially comparing to my gaming days in the 80s.

Perhaps it was due to age and the groups I was playing with in high school, but, no, not entirely. Read some of Gary's writings when the need to protect TSRs interests led him astray from his early more "open source" war gaming ethos to his transformation into bad-wrong fun scold.

I'm continually surprised that communities I participate in are not more toxic than they are. And that even includes Reddit forums.

WotC has done a great job supporting different approaches to gaming and re-empowering the GM over rules minutia and the D&D fandom seems to have soaked in that philosophy.

Lots of people play D&D, Why do we need Deborah Ann Woĺl?
She may draw fans from other fantasy-adjacent properties like True Blood and Daredevil. Not a huge fan of her characters, but if cast properly she could fit in very well in a D&D movie. I could see her playing a low level sorcerer who is just discovering her powers and trying to come to grips with it. Most of the characters I've seen her play are seemingly simple girl who finds herself in above her head trying to find meaning in direction after her life has been turned upside down.

And it doesn't hurt that she is a true fan of the game who was playing it for years and not just as PR-stunt stream. Being a fan doesn't mean you are going to be good acting in a movie based on the game/setting, but it can help, I feel, for a good actor to also be a big fan.

Tom Holland shares how he helped save the Disney and Sony Spider-Man deal

People love Hollywood movies, but not the producers. Video industry caused a lot of damage against cinemas, but now the streaming services in internet are the ultimate hit. If the big screens survive it is because people go to the cinemas to see productions too spectacular for the little screen. Audence notices Hollywood stars can become fallen angels too easily.

I guess D&D movie will be an epic comedy, a style that usually can work in the box office. And Hasbro hopes to sell a lot of toys.

Gamma World could be an action-live movie.

Because she is a celeb that actually plays the game.

And i think having someone that plays and is in it, would be a good endorsement - but that may just be me.
