Getting harder to find things that deserve upvotes.
'Tis the nature of the beast. These threads generally go in order of:
  • actually bad things and/or things with an ardent hatedom
  • interesting but non-standard things, options that are seen as inoffensive but OP/weak
  • whatever remains that has actual flavor and distinctness
This one's going to be a bit weirder than usual because the ultrabland option has already been removed (humans) and relatively more distinct options have risen to the fore for a bit. My fear is that it will come down to elves (or half-elves) vs dwarves (or halflings) in the end and elves will win purely because they're pretty.

The Space Elves are doing pretty well, too...I don't think they've gotten a single downvote.
...space elves? I don't see anything on the list that looks like "space elves." Githyanki?

Good list! Normally I'd consider minotaur and satyr to be in the "Animal" category, but you might have changed my mind about that. They have a good amount of mythology to back them up, compared to some.

(glares accusingly at the rabbit-eared hobbit)

now that we're whittling down the list i've started checking the wiki to see what some of the features of the remaining species i'm not intimately familiar with are and it caused me to consider: what features actually makes a good species?

Elf, High 6 + 1 = 7 Whats with the Tolkien haters?
Haven't you heard? Tolkien is old-hat. Out of fashion. Tired, and played-out, and (insert cliché for 'not new' here).

Old and Busted: Tolkien elves and dwarves and hobbits saving the world, in a high fantasy epic campaign saga.
New Hotness: Marvel superheroes with mutant powers from another dimension, sandboxing in a cinematic Hollywood blockbuster.
