Planescape Manual of the Planes for 5e on DMSGuild

New on the DMSGuild is the Manual of the Planes for 5th edition. The cover is stunning.

Manual of the Planes. An invaluable, definitive work on the most fascinating aspect of the World's Greatest Roleplaying Game

It's over 300 pages and the credits page includes folks from The Draconomicon, The Dragonlance Companion, Tasha's Crucible of Everything Else, Planescape: Metropolis, The Honkonomicon and Planewalker.com

I love the special thanks.

This project was made possible by Roll20. Thank you for unlocking new horizons for the latest generation of planewalkers, bashers, berks, and touts. We’d also like to thank the giants on whose shoulders we stand when writing this book: Justice Ramin Arman, Richard Baker, Wolfgang Baur, David “Zeb” Cook, Bruce R. Cordell, Jeff Grubb, David Noonan, F. Wesley Schneider, Rick Swan, and all others who helped create and cultivate Planescape and the planes.

I've just bought it and am reading it now.

Here is the table of contents.

Is there more art in the book then the first 17 pages of the book hint at?

No.

Are there any maps of Planes or key sites within Planes?

There's a rough diagram of the Elemental Chaos; other than that, no.

Any plans for Aasimar who better fit Planescape?
Would need to unpack what you mean by this specifically, but it's not outside the realm of possibility; I'm a fan of interesting planetouched.

For the record, I don't think you should feel bad about the art. The content is far more important to an RPG product. Commissioned art is expensive, and too many people would turn on you if you even suggest the idea of using AI art.

This looks like a great product, and I plan to pick it up as soon as I can scrape together the cash. Excellent work!

I'll always want art, myself, and I curse younger me for not having developed the skills to produce it - but I appreciate the sentiment. As others have said, I think AI is useful for helping an artist get a sense of what one is after, and for personal use or simple fun, go nuts; for commercial use, it is inherently theft from the creators whose original work was used to train the AI model.

I hope the content is able to speak for itself, and certainly we appreciate all of the feedback as it helps us look at things that can be improved in future releases.

I can’t justify 35$ on a book with no art without a detailed review being published first. And no offense to the head of the project posting in here frequently, but I think there is a concern that people aren’t going to give their honest and full opinion so as not to offend them and their team, as clearly a lot of work was done for this and people want to be respectful to creators. I’d like to buy this, but there’s too little information to go on now as to whether it is worth it as this price point with no art when I have all the old Planescape PDFs and Monte Cook’s more recent book to rely on.

Wait for some reviews to come in. Or for me to finally crack open the ol iPad and take a gander :'D
But I hard to imagine that some art would automatically qualify as a justification for your purchase if everything else were the same?

Fair. For what it's worth, we really would appreciate the honest feedback, even if negative.

It's not going anywhere, in any event, so hopefully we will see some reviews. If you're suggesting it would be helpful for us to recuse ourselves in this thread to provide space for people to share opinions without feeling like they might offend us, I'm happy to do so.

I don't think you need to recuse yourselves. Any help you might give by recusal is more than mitigated by your presence here to answer and ask questions. Further, I haven't noticed any great tendency for people on the internet to hold back in case they might offend someone. :P
