D&D (2024) Ranger 2024 is a bigger joke than Ranger 2014:

But it is not very powerful. You only use it when you don't have something good to concentrate on, which is rare after level 6 or so.

The same is true for Hunters Mark, the difference being that Hunters Mark uses that bonus action and does less damage on the turn you use it.

Hunter's Mark is a really, really crappy niche.
yeah,
I see this as a nice dip of fighter archer.

Ftr11/Rgr1 would be nice of round1 burst, that is 6 possible applications of HM.

I don't think you get used base on Proficiency levels anymore. You get the amount but based on ranger level.

5.5e mostly prof/level that out to prevent dipping.

they should keep that.

prof bonus per long rest for frequency of features, but power of features should be tied to class level.

I.E:
barbarian rage could be prof bonus per long rest but bonus damage and any additional effects should be based on class level.

I've looked at a lot of alternate 5E ranger classes, and this new one looks...better than WOTC's 2014 ranger. Unfortunately, this is damning with faint praise. I think WOTC's ranger is weak sauce, partly because the system doesn't offer much if any support for exploration and survival. Level Up has the best ranger I've seen, and that's partly because every class has a healthy dose of non-combat features. LU also has a robust exploration challenges system.

So, I probably won't be using this 2024 ranger as a player.

Well that is because a large proportion of the D&D fan base have no desire to play the expiration part of the game.

And a noticeable percentage of the portion who do want to run exploration which to run the tedious part that the other portion doesn't want to run.

Like I said before the 2024 addition of the Ranger was made just to ensure that you have a ranger that doesn't suck mechanically. Because flavor-wise the community does not agree at all and attempting to please one group opposes the wishes of another group.
