Forked Thread: Scotley's Tomb of Horrors 3.5 Continued

The room beyond is narrow and small, 10' wide and only 20' deep. A pile of gems, coins, vials, scrolls, and other items lies immediately inside the door of this mithral vault, but against the rune-scribed far wall is a stone bier. On the bier is a thick layer of dust mixed with bone shards and a gem-encrusted skull.

"This can't be real! It's too small and not nearly ostentatious enough, considering what we've learned of A. and his self-worth!" Logan disbelieves with all his heart and says a silent prayer that this illusion will dissipate.

"Ah, treasure. this is more like it." As Harrison is about to step in the room he sees the far wall, "What's that?" he asks indicateing the wierd designs on the wal around the pentagram. His superstitious side is really getting a work over in this treasure hunt.

The treasure seems to be quite real this time. At least Logan's best efforts at disbelief do not result in a change. Some of the gems are particularly nice and a couple of the items, particularly the sword and staff are of very fine make. None of you recognize the symbols on the wall.

Logan says, "I guess detecting evil in this place would be kinda like staring at the sun, so...." and so saying, he casts Detect Magic.

Logan involuntarily raises a hand to shield his eyes from the bright glow of the magical auras in the room.

[sblock=Logan]The great sword radiates strong abjuration, the rod is powerful but without a particular school of magic, the slim straight staff surmounted by a gem is ablaze with magical potential of multiple schools, a tower shield wrapped with strips of cloth gives off powerful emanations of a necromantic type, 9 assorted vials, philters, bottles and flasks all radiate minor magics, 9 scrolls--some arcane and some divine give off various levels of power from mild to quite potent, a set of lens in a frame with a leather head strap carry moderate divinatory power, a gold ring etched with a feather pattern shows a faint transmutation, a spear with moderate evocation leans against the wall near the door, one long sword has a mild aura of abjuration while the other has a sense of moderate transmutation.[/sblock]

In addition to the magical items the floor is littered with coins of various denominations and perhaps a hundred gems. While most of the gems are worth only a few gold pieces each a few particularly nice specimens can be seen. A black pearl near the center of the room is worth at least 10,000 gp and the rubies and diamonds set into the skull on the bier are easily worth half again as much collectively.

"Um, I think I just did.... There is a great deal of magic emanating from these items before us, but I do not trust what has been revealed to me. It just seems too easy somehow..."

"Of course it's too easy. It must be another trap of some sort. Obviously very diabolical in nature. I'm certain that removing the treasure or the nice weapons would be hazardous to our continuing health." he states with absolute belief.
