Wierd.....

I came up with, "I before E, but weird is weird."

Thats actually "i before e except after c, when the sound is ee" I believe

I believe the rull rhyme is:

I before 'E', except after 'C', except if you please in that little word 'seize'.

At least, that's the version I was taught. The sound being a long E thing is kinda implicit IMO, and in any case doesn't help in the case of weird, which is a long E sound.

I think I'll just stick to "I before E unless I don't care, because I have autocorrect on things where spelling is important" (spoken by a true computer major )
