OOC: @Mewness I got another Brash Assault for you to take care of :P

As the big, red-haired man reappears conveniently next to Takahaan, the dragonborn smiles and raises his massive nodachi again. "Not dead yet?" he asks, before bringing the sword around, slashing at his shoulder. He seems near death, but Takahaan continues to taunt him, battle fury in his eyes.

"Your move! Go on, try!" he yells at the cannibal, Takahaan lowering his shield a bit to coax his opponent into continuing the duel. He circles him, hoping to draw the attention away from his allies right behind.[sblock=Mechanics]
Standard: Brash Assault on Klorak. Hits AC 24 for 9 damage.

Move: Cancelled, Saving Throw attempted instead. Failed.

OOC: I failed the saving throw and cancelled my move action. [MENTION=57009]Dekana[/MENTION] You've got a free MBA to make. I believe if you hit, you will kill Klorak.

Right after the huge cannibal hammers Takahaan, Castile lodges her axe into his spine. He makes a low groan, stumbles, and then collapses.

[sblock=roll]Granted MBA vs Klorak hits AC 29 for 19 damage, killing him, and Castile gains 4 THP and 4 hp. (1d20+9+2=29; 1d12+7=19)[/sblock]

Castile's helmet seems to still be ringing from the red-haired cannibal's blow, but she focuses enough to zero in on her next target. She spots one of the small cannibals between her and Noriaki and immediately makes a low slash at it. Her axe tears across both of his legs, leaving deep gashes, but the cannibal somehow keeps himself upright.

[sblock=Castile actions / stats]Start of turn: Take 5 damage; the THP absorbs 4 of it.

Standard: Crushing Surge vs Cannibal 6 hits AC 21 for 10 damage, he's marked TENT Castile, and Castile gains 8 THP. Th flaming sphere should finish him off. (1d20+9=21; 1d12+7+2=12) - Disregard the +2 for damage; I forgot about the OG5, so I included the temp hp bonus.

End of turn: Save vs dazed succeeds. Save vs OG 5 fails. (1d20=14; 1d20=3)

Combat notes: +2 melee / close damage with THP, +2 to attack roll on OAs, OAs stop enemy movement; ignore 1 square forced movement
[/sblock][sblock=Immediate actions]1. Shield Edge Block when an adjacent enemy hits Castile with a close or melee attack and would have missed with a -4 penalty to the attack. Immediate Interrupt, +8 vs Fort, 2d6+4 damage and +4 THP. Effect: The target takes a -4 penalty to the triggering attack.

2. Combat Challenge when an adjacent enemy marked by Castile shifts or attacks an ally and doesn't include her in the attack. Immediate Interrupt, MBA vs AC. On a hit, the target is also pushed 1 if that would force it out of range for its triggering attack (no push otherwise).

3. Guardian's Counter when an ally within 2 squares of Castile is attacked and she isn't included. Immediate Interrupt, Castile and the ally switch places and she is the target instead. After the attack, she makes a basic attack vs the attacker.

4. Opportunity Attack as usual, 1/turn. MBA+2 vs AC. On a hit, the target stops moving (if a move provoked the OA).[/sblock]

The remaining cannibals continue to fight even as their leader, bleeding profusely from over a dozen wounds, is finally cut down. But their strength is nothing compared to his, and the adventurers dispatch them without effort.

GM: I’m calling the fight here, as there are only stragglers left.

Final status:

Castile HP 30+8/52; surges 9/13; AP used
Hú Lí HP 11/39; surges 6/8; AP used
Kane HP 9/44; surges 10/10; AP used
Noriaki HP 12/45; surges 9/9; AP used
Takahaan HP 23/39; surges 7/8; AP used
Pezock HP 15/35; surges 6/7
Fey Beast HP 2/22

You can take a short rest. There should be another update up by tonight.

"A fine victory," Hú Lí says, "I will sing of this battle in the style of old." She taps rhythmically on her drum, rapidly at first, then slowing down gradually as everyone's heart rate returns to normal.
OOC: Everyone who spends a surge during the short rest gets an extra 4 HP from Song of Rest. I've also got an unused Majestic Word which I can use prior to the rest for another 4 bonus hp, if combining the two will save anyone a surge, but you'll need to spend two or more surges total to take advantage of this.

“Hahah!” crows Pezock as the last of the cannibals falls. “I knew we could do it! That ball of fire--a wonderful trick, that. Ha, Noriaki, you almost sliced that old witch right in two! Wonderful, excellent friends.... If only.... Oh, Pearl, if only we could be certain that Eraka knew of it somehow, that we’ve finally....” he falls silent, overcome by sentiment.

Nobody else emerges from any building to challenge them, and the adventurers are free to look around. The first order of business is to examine the bodies. The witch-woman is wearing a large mother-of-pearl button as an amulet and the red-haired berserker has on a pair of iron bracers and a fine snakeskin belt.

In the outdoor area of the camp, not far from the tower, there is a trapdoor in the ground with a pentagram carved onto it. It is easily lifted up, and there seems to be a large underground space beneath, but it is too dark to tell how extensive it is. [OOC: this trapdoor is located at K12-L13 on the combat map. It wasn’t drawn in for the fight.] The sound of trickling water can be heard from somewhere below.

The building to the west, connected to the tower, turns out to be a butchery. It contains a very large chopping block, and the fenced area outside it was most likely a holding pen for human captives. There are some grisly remains about the area, which nobody cares to examine too closely.

The building to the north seems to have been the cannibals’ main lodging. The open L-shaped hut was being used as a general storeroom. It contains piles of junk (probably salvaged from wrecks), a few weapons and tools of no great quality, and a goodly supply of root vegetables.

The evil-smelling hut to the south seems to have been the private residence of the witch. It stinks of foul and magical concoctions. Some of these may well be useful, but nobody is entirely sure of whether they can be trusted.

The tower appears to have been used by the red-haired man as his personal residence. One room is clearly his bedroom, with an actual bed--not very well made, but larger and probably more comfortable than the sleeping pallets in the main residence. Another room seems to be a sort of shrine. Its centerpiece is an old ship’s figurehead in the shape of a sea serpent--a device that Kane recognizes as one used by the Thrune family. The room is cluttered with dozens of old but entirely ordinary objects that seem to have been placed very deliberately.

There is another sleeping room in the tower, and, oddly enough, it seems to have been refurnished for that purpose recently. It is cleaner than the other rooms, and the bed, though simple, is new. Most curious of all is that it is strewn with various objects--eating utensils, a wine jar, and other things--that most of the group recognize as coming from the Jenivere.

[sblock=Perception 18 (active only)]Either the room hasn’t been used in the last couple of days, or the occupant spends hardly any time there. The bed hasn’t been slept in recently, and there are no crumbs or other traces of food.[/sblock]
The top of the tower contains a large piece of machinery that includes an enormous bronze reflector. The tower is, in fact, an old--and incomplete--lighthouse.

“Marvelous!” exclaims Pezock. “Does it work? Who could have made this?” He starts fiddling with the various mechanisms. “No--well, look here, Pearl, this is all corroded. Disgusting cannibals, why can’t people take care of--and here--why won’t this turn?--Aha, I see, there’s a part missing. But this is close to functional. If I could just get this cleaned up--do you remember whether I have a bolt this size back at the crab, Pearl? It would be the very thing.... Hmm. Now here’s another problem. But this is--this is almost--! Think of it, a working lighthouse on the Shiv! I must fix this. Now what do we need?” Pezock putters around, utterly engrossed in examining, cleaning, and measuring.

[sblock=Treasure!]Viper belt (L4 item) -- Takahaan
Amulet of psychic interference +1 (L5 item) -- Kane
Iron armbands of power (heroic) (L6 item) -- Castile

If you want to “buy” anything, now would be a good time.[/sblock]

As abruptly as it began, Noriaki's rage ends. He blinks and the light in his eyes vanishes. Without it, he suddenly feels as though he has ran a marathon at a dead sprint. Sweat begins to pour down his brow, and he nearly drops to one knee, panting lightly. As the others search the area, he finds a quiet spot in the shade and sits down gingerly.
