Despite the heat, their exhaustion, and the insistent attentions of biting insects, the group manages to construct a campsite that is more than adequate. Sasha and the Irregulars have taken the effort to raise the shelters a little bit off the ground, so that they will not get flooded by the afternoon rains, and the Pict has thoughtfully lined the gaps in the walls with some sort of plant sap that seems to serve as a natural insect repellent.
“Bacon!” exclaims Sasha in response to Dartmoor’s remarks about the taste of spider.
“Are you sure they're even edible?” She seems simultaneously repulsed and intrigued.
Aerys and Jade, having little expertise in such matters, have occupied themselves by fetching and carrying at Takahaan’s request. When they shift the stone that Hú Lí chose, they uncover what appears to be a large bone half-buried in the dirt. Upon close inspection, it turns out to be a carved bone flute. Though filled with dirt, it appears to be in excellent condition.

The light is fading as the shipwreck survivors pronounce themselves satisfied with their work. When it is finally done, Gelik steps up to admire the campsite.
“Not that I wouldn’t vastly prefer a solid house and a soft bed, but this really doesn’t look so bad. I’m amazed that we put this together so quickly.”
Aerys seems not only exhausted but shaky. She opens one of the jars of wine and sinks to the ground with it, taking a large swig.
“‘We’?” she says.
“Did you contribute to the effort while I wasn’t looking? I’ve half a mind to let you sleep outside with the bugs.”
“What was I supposed to do? I’m little! I can’t carry big burdens around like--”
“You’re as big as any four of Dartmoor’s warriors,” Aerys snorts.
“Well, I’m no woodsman! I’ve barely stepped off a paved road in my life! I’d just have gotten lost or--in the way. He didn’t do a thing”--Gelik jerks his head at Ishirou--
“and I don’t see you telling him to sleep outside. But perhaps you care to impose only on the unimposing.”
Aerys responds to Gelik’s gesture by looking around as though she had completely forgotten Ishirou’s existence; she hardly seems to hear the rest of the speech. Taking another generous gulp of wine, she calls out,
“Hey, head-in-the-clouds, any chance of you ever helping us out instead of sitting there and staring like a dead fish?”
“No,” replies Ishirou softly, without turning his head.
“But I will sleep outside if you wish.”
Both Aerys and Gelik seem dumbstruck by this response.
GM: | Skill challenge successful! You now have a permanent (or at least semi-permanent) camp. You can take extended rests here. There’s also Captain Kovack’s logbook to be gone through, if anyone wants to do that. It’s now about 8 pm and getting dark (sunrise will be at 6 am). You should indeed decide how many watches you want and who will be on them. You can allocate NPCs to watches as well.
Oh, and it’s OK to assume Kane didn’t spend the AP (although it probably won’t be important). | |
