Airwalkrr's 4e Game IC: Ch 1 Sedition

Petron takes a very firm stance next to the door, and gripping it with his sturdy fingers, he starts trying to push it aside. "....Com'n..." The effort makes his muscles pump blood, making his veins more visible.

Petron feels an almost unnatural resistance from the door, as if some unseen force were bolstering it against his brawny shove. Still, he feels as if he is making a bit of progress.
GM: That's a success! Petron can continue using Athletics at this time, but the difficulty will steadily increase. It's as if something is fighting back at you the harder you push. You have 2 successes and 0 failures.

Erik and Krawlinstar are up.

Erik

Since she's trying to help the others force a door open, rather than pick the lock, Lia tries to examine the structure around the door, looking for weaknesses.

Erik senses a powerful magical presence upon the door. But there is something more. The magical presence is that of some sort of warding, but it seems designed to hold something in, not to keep people out. There may be some entity trapped within the door.
GM: Religion can now be used to determine the nature of the entity.

Krawlinstar believes he has heard tales of this door, and that a secret lever is hidden in an adjacent empty burial plot. As he examines the plot closely, looking for signs of the lever, he is surprised by a rat that leaps out at him, clawing and biting at him defensively. He manages to scrape the creature off and it scampers off down the hallway. (Krawlinstar lose one healing surge.)

The door is quite solid all around, but Lia notices something unusual about the door's construction. It was built in such a way that it actually holds up the entire ceiling in this area. Too much physical pressure on the door could actually cause the ceiling to collapse.
GM: In effect, Lia realizes that more than two Athletics attempts to weaken the door could result in the ceiling partially (or wholly) caving in. Petron has already made one attempt. He can make one more safely, but after that, do so at your own peril.

4 successes and 1 failure.

Relying in his knowledge about the Gods and Pelor,Krawlinstar now attempts to figure out something about this door that he might have read in the tomes of the church of light in his student years.

Krawlinstar recalls an interesting and yet horrifying bit of lore from his studies as an acolyte. He has heard of barriers like this before. "Spirit walls" they are called. The ritual to create them involves binding the spirits of the dead into a place one wishes to ward against intrusion and using the supernatural power of their spirits to reinforce any barriers in place. Destroying the door would release the spirits, possibly causing chaos, but perhaps there is another way...
GM: Diplomacy or Bluff might now be used to communicate with the spirits within the wall.

5 successes, 1 failure.

Petron and Erik are up.

"Yo, lazy spirits, open the door. I demand it by my superior intellect!" Erik starts to coerce the spirits...
