Airwalkrr's 4e Game IC: Ch 1 Sedition

Lia slides over slightly and fires another pair of arrows. One more hit ought to do it.[sblock=actions]move:shift to K8
standard: twin strike vs. tiefling

15 vs AC is a miss; 21 vs AC is a hit (I think) for 14 dmg, which takes the tiefling down (I think)[/sblock]
While her first arrow missed and nicked Erik's hat, her second was another matter. "No, you won't." She said as its point went in.

Petron looks back in horror, seeing his brother in trouble. "Leave my brother ALONE!" he screams as he charges back, using the momentum to carry a powerful blow into the tiefling's midsection.

Mark him if he still lives.

The combination of Lia's arrow and Petron's mighty axe mow the tiefling down. As he lies on the ground, sputtering and coughing up blood, he manages one final curse, "You will...*cough* rue this day..."

The battle was pitched and fierce. You aren't certain how long it lasted, but it seems to you as if it lasted hours. The tieflings were highly skilled warriors and a true test of your mettle, but finally the dust has settled and you were victorious!
GM: You all gain 100 xp. If I am counting right that puts you at 800/1000. You now have time for a short rest. You can expend any healing surges you need to and regain encounter powers.
After a brief rest, you survey the carnage and see that the clerks still remain, cowering in the back of the building. They seem unsure of whether they are your prisoners or whether you intend to execute them as you apparently did the guards and tieflings. They seem ignorant of the fact that you merely knocked your opponents out (well, all but one anyway). One of them however seems venturesome enough to approach you. "Excuse me sirs and lady, I am known as Grimlow, and I wish to speak for me and my fellows. Might I inquire as to your intentions regarding us? Surely we pose no threat to you. We are unarmed civilians merely doing our jobs. I urge you to have mercy upon us and allow us to escape from this bloodbath with our lives."
GM: If you examine it, the foyer at the front of the building has some decorative tables holding vases with flowers as well as some tapestries depicting proud soldiers of the Berandal Republic. You may roll History checks to identify the figures depicted in the tapestries.[sblock=History DC 12]You recognize these figures as four knights who are members of an organization known as the League of Ventures. This knightly order is known throughout the land as defenders of the liberties of Berandal and protectors of the innocent. Their placement inside this business of questionable practices seems strange.[/sblock]There are also four doors leading out from the foyer into other rooms (as depicted on the map). Their contents are currently unknown, but no creatures issue forth from them.

"Truly told, we didn't intend to kill anyone -- and most of the guards should wake up, I think. I got too fancy trying to make sure that one guard didn't get away, but when those two showed up... I would not have wanted to face one of them alone, except perhaps if we were at opposite ends of an open field." Lia said.

Erik

"Could you explain what you are exactly doing here? This isn't quite what I expected."
Eric says cautiously. Among the seemingly innocent people could be more hidden guards.

"We need information, that is granted, and we didn't intend to kill anyone but that last guy. As my comrade here says, they are merely sleeping now. We don't wish to harm you Grimlow, but we can't let you go now and report this, as you surely understand; however you have my promise that no ill will come to you or your companions, beside the little inconvenient of remaining here for a while." Petron says, in his most educated tone.

Grimlow seems a bit calmed by your words, but is still uneasy (a Diplomacy or Bluff might smooth things over if you care to do so). But he responds to Erik's question as best he seems able. "We are scribes, accountants, and barristers mostly. We do the booking for the business, keeping financial and legal records, making sure mercenaries and caravan masters are paid, that sort of thing. But still, and please do not think ill of me for bringing it up, my comrades and I wonder why it is you have attacked this place. Are you enemies of Berandal who wish to sabotage our country? Are we your hostages? What exactly do you hope to accomplish? Surely you realize that Manas is a fortified city, and others (those in the foyer when you arrived) have already left the building to report on the attack. It cannot be long before the Republican Guard is summoned to address this incident."
GM: If you think there might be guards hidden among the clerks, feel free to make a Perception or Insight check to look for anything out of place.

Don't worry about us sir.i'm a cleric of Pelor,as you can see in this holy symbol i'm wearing. we didn't intent to kill or attack anyone here, but the guards acted first,as expected, its their job. as a proof of that, you saw when i treated the remaining guards.if i wanted to kill them,i could just let them die here.but this is not my way neither the way of the god i follow.i would like you to answer one question for me,if you can: do you noticed anything strange around here in the last few weeks? anything besides the place normal job and routines?

OOC: i have taken a short rest to restore the encounters powers.

[sblock=Erik only]You notice a woman in the crowd of clerks who doesn't quite belong. Most of the clerks have ink-stained hands, fairly plebian clothing, and worn, wearied faces. This woman's hands are quite clean and supple, and she is dressed in finer clothes than the rest of the lot; not strikingly finer, but where the others wear clothes that have been patched and re-patched perhaps dozens of times, she appears to be wearing clothing that is new. She has light auburn hair, dark eyes, and fair skin. She is attempting to blend into the crowd and doing a pretty good job of it, but it's obvious she doesn't belong with this lot for one reason or another.[/sblock]
GM: I will give Krawlinstar a +2 circumstance bonus on his Diplomacy check for roleplaying because he tended to the wounded.
Grimlow seems genuinely assuaged by Krawlinstar's words and stops shaking in terror quite so much as he had before. It seems the rest of the clerks are similarly put at ease. Because of this, Grimlow answers thus, "I'm not certain I should be telling you this. It is after all, a private business matter. However, you have been merciful to us and I can sense you have good intentions.

"About a week ago one of our accountants, a woman named Klimine, stopped showing up for work. The day before this it just so happened that I was working very late when I heard shouting from upstairs. I could tell that Klimine was speaking very angrily with my superior, a fellow named Darok, who is in charge of the Silver Mantle Company's operations in Manas. I could not understand the exact nature of the conversation, but it was clear Klimine was very upset about something. At the time I paid it no mind because I was very invested in my work. After she stopped showing up for work, I assumed that she had been fired or quit. That would have been the end of it. But rumor has it Klimine has not been seen in town since. There is gossip floating around that she went to live with her mother in the country, but I'm not certain I believe that. Anyway, the morning we arrived to find Klimine not around, her desk had already been cleared out. I'm not the sort of person to go asking questions about that sort of thing though, so I have put the matter to rest in my mind."
