Enterprise 11-12-03

That's just it, isn't it? :)

Imagine where the SW franchise would be if the first time the audience saw a light saber they simply would not make the leap and accept them as possible technology. There's no real explanation IIRC but it was accepted, we moved on and enjoyed the story. Imagine if the writers/editors felt the audience would require a detailed explanation of how they worked before the technology would be accepted.

Exactly. For example, I read off of IMDb that the Transporter was just an excuse not to have to animate a shuttle going down onto a planet, or the ships docking with each other.

So, this was totally a TOS episode, and very bizzare. They're in the middle of, what do they call it, the Expanse? Which is full of spacial anomalies and Xindi that want to wipe out humanity. But here's a colony of people and some sicarrans, right in the middle of it.

And, when the sicarrans got jumped by old Cooper, whatever his name was, the "butcher", why on earth didn't they radio for help?

I liked this episode, but it had its warts.

So, the preview for next week's episode. It's like the people that make those study really hard to make them ruin the whole episode, because it sure looked like they adroitly gave away the entire 40-odd minute episode in 3 screenshots and a line ("What's amazing is what he left behind."). Maybe it was preview-judo, to get us thinking one thing, but really be another. I really hope so.

Another surprisingly good episode! It seems that since sweeps month kicked in, they've really gotten their act together.

Favorite part:
When Reed shot T'Pol!
It gave me giggles for a good minute. Good unexpected move.

Good points, LightPhoenix. I guess it boils down to the motivation for including time travel. I'll try to add some more later after further thought.

This kinda falls into the conversation LP and I are having about suspesion of disbelief. I can think of a number of reasons why they might have been prevented from calling for help, the anomalies being one, space-storms, planetary storms, etc.

As to the preview, they certainly seem to have gotten your attention. ;)

Yeah, that was great. It was the reactions after it that was also good.

It seems to me that every ST series by between 3rd-5th season has some kind of contact with the past (Am I wrong about TOS? Tell me.)

Yeah, but they could have accomplished the same thing by saying "See who dies" and showed the crew getting ready to launch a torpedo into space, without showing me
Tripp diving away from an expoding thing
, and then beating it in with a shot of
Tripp lying on a slab
.

And they certainly could have said "But you'll never believe what he leaves behind," without a shot of
Tripp kissing T'Pol, and then a shot of T'Pol holding a baby
. Subtlety is a lost art in hollywood.

It's sad how far my expectations have fallen. I thought this was a very good Enterprise episode. Unfortunately for any other series I would consider this to be what average quality should be.

i didn't realize this until the end of the episode, but this series is placed before the prime directive was created. this episode was okay, but they could have done better. some scenes could have been better.
