Heroes: The Powers

AAARG...too...many...brain cells...wasted...on...HEROES!

Images/company biatch -> Candace

And I think you're right on with your assessemnt of Sylar/Peter's powers...I think they're essentially the same thing, just interpereted differently. "Knowing how things work" is pretty much the same thing as "empathy", just filtered through a manipulative, predatory lens.

*edit* Ninja'd by Grymar!

IIRC, Candice's power wasn't so much creating "images" as it was manipulating the minds of others. It was almost like mind-control, except she couldn't control what they thought, only what they perceived.

I wouldn't call Peter's power empathy, either. Empathy has to do with emotions, being able to understand how another person feels (in spite of that Star Trek episode "The Empath" that made it seem like the ability to absorb someone else's injury was "empathy"). I'd describe Peter's power as a kind of mimicry.

I don't think Sylar's power works the same as Peter's, either. He's not stupid. He should have been able to figure out that he doesn't have to kill people to obtain their abilties, if his powers do work the same as Peter's.

Although, I suppose it's possible that he just kills because he wants to be the only one with those powers.

I don't think they've ever come right out and said specifically what Sylar does with the brains, either. Maybe he's keeping them in jars somewhere and rechargning himself off them periodically.

I find it curious that Hiro refers to his own power as being able to "stop time", when it's obvious that he can do more than just stop time. Otherwise how did he get from Tokyo to New York by just "stopping time"?

Primarily, I guess, the breast stroke. :)

OMG! Peter can use abilities that Sylar stole!!

Peter has all of Sylar's abilities. When he can figure out to use them - Peter is clearly the most powerful Hero alive.

Which is why, of course, they don't let Peter figure it out. A Peter who suddenly has a perfect understanding of all of his powers makes Magneto look...well - maybe not the be all and end all.

That uberness would sort of ruin the show though. Heroes works better low to mid-level :)

Yeah, Peter is scary powerful. But he only seems able to use one power at a time. And right now he doesn't even know what powers he has - what if his nuclear explosion power gets out of control again? :eek:
