(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 1

OOC: @FitzTheRuke do we have surprise on all the giants except the stone giant? Does Jack have advantage/sneak attack on the Chieftess with her back to the party?
OOC: Yeah, for the purposes of any abilities, you have "surprise" but with the way that I do Initiative in PBP - that means that the monsters go last, not that they miss a turn. But for "assassin"-type stuff? Yeah, it works. And yeah, you can get advantage on the Chieftess. Primarily because she's sitting down. It's not "prone" enough to give you disadvantage at range, but it's enough that she's not properly defending herself. This is somewhat true for most of the other giants at the table (other than the Stone Giant) but I would say that they are mid-act of getting up, and facing you gives them just enough defensive capabilities that unless you have something else that gives you advantage, their sitting isn't enough on its own.

Cordit also drank from the 'growth' bottle. She was already so large that she didn't grow very much taller, but her hairy ape-body bulked up enough that the group could see its effects were working.

OOC: Okay, I'm not going to make her go from Huge to Colossal (or whatever the next size is called) but I knocked her icon up a few points and I'll give her the +1d4 damage & Adv. on STR checks & saves. Same goes for Valda using her own growth abilites: She can have all the mechanical effects that aren't exactly the same, and I'll make her icon a few points larger, but she's still "technically" large-sized and not huge. You may have noticed that her icon was already bigger than the others. I tend to do that with orcs and goliaths, etc. You'll also note that while the "young hill giants" and the "schlub/servant"-type hill giants are both occupying 10x10 squares (so "Large") they're not quite the same sized icons. And Nosnra is bigger, even though he's just as Huge as the other giants. I'm just playing with some visual gradients between the rule-based-sizes and the actual height-weights of the individuals.

Quinn moves forward quickly in the chaos after the doors are opened. He positions himself near the back of the giant chieftess and begins to draw on his powers. He chants some words of a spell and extends out his sickle. An electric blue point begins to form at the tip of the implement. Moments later a blast of ice and cold sprays across all sitting at the table. Once the spell is complete Quinn speaks a word and vanishes in a cloud of mist.

OOC: Move: going to move to AR52.
Action: Cast Cone of Cold towards the back of the HG Chieftess. It should hit everyone at the table and might even catch the bear. Cone of Cold damage: 8d8 44 All under the 60 ft cone must make a DC18 Con save.
Bonus: Cast Misty Step back to AX51

The chieftess had barely turned, hardly understood what was happening when Bible's handaxe struck her in the back of the head. She'd only begun to lift her massive body while shoving back her chair when Jack's quarrel burried deep into her back. She didn't even finish turning around when Quinn blew ice across her, freezing the table solid and scattering sharp shards that tore into her and into all of those behind her.

Yet, get up she did. With an axe in her head, a quarrel in her back, and shards of rapidly-melting ice all over, she stumbled around and began to lift her chair to use against Bible, when Cordit leaped through the door and grabbed the nearby pillar. The halfling sailor-turned-ape spun around the pillar counter-clockwise, holding it with her ape-hands, and kicked the giantess with both ape-feet. The momentum crushed ribs and shoved ice-shards further into her body, and the Chieftess collapsed, wheezing and shuddering on the ground, unable to breathe and quickly to die.

As Cordit stopped spinning around the pillar and landed on her feet, it was only then that anyone noticed how the pillar had flexed under her weight, and dirt, dust, debris, and a few unfortunate rats fell from the shaken thatched roof above.

OOC: Sorry I've taken so long to roll the round. It's intimidating in its size. I'll see if I can get through it ASAP. Chieftess is dead, though!

Legend
The table was frozen with ice and the giants had all been struck by shards and frost-bitten on their exposed flesh. The Chief stood and lifted a crossbow that would have been a ballista, due to its size, had it been mounted. He jammed in a quarrel the size of a sapling and fired it at Bible, who was thrown back into the wall by the force of the blow. She was very happy that she'd drank the growth potion, as she could only imagine how it would have hurt had she been smaller.

The older hill giant woman hefted a large spiked club and she furiously pummelled Cordit, who hadn't quite regained her standing posture, and she fell on her back from the force of the blows. Again and again, the old giantess brought her club down on the ape, who covered her face with her hands and cried, "Aoowwww!"

But now giants were everywhere, rushing about the room and gathering weapons as the big firepit billowed steam from where Quinn's ice had struck its northern side. With Bible slightly behind her, and Cordit lying on the ground behind a pillar, Valda became the most obvious target in the room.

And Hill Giants were known to be single-minded. Nearly every one of them, as soon as they had rocks in hand, and as the young hill giant ducked to run away while his combat-teacher, the ogress, distracted Valda with her club, the hill giants threw rock after heavy rock that all came crashing down on Valda with great force, crushing her under a large weight of stone.

OOC: Yikes! I got two crits and three other stones that hit in the mid-20's. Valda took 86 damage (28,12,24,&22) which puts her down if none of it can be blocked somehow. Bible took 21 from the crossbow and was pushed back 10ft. Everyone else either missed, disengaged (like the young giant) or dashed (like the armored hill giant).

OOC:
I would like to use my reaction to use the Cloud Giant's Rune to redirect the 28 damage hit towards the Armored Hill Giant.

-Cloud Rune: While wearing or carrying the rune, have advantage on Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) and Charisma (Deception) checks. Can use my reaction to invoke the rune when I or a creature within 30 ft is hit by an attack. Choose a different creature within 30 ft to become the target of the attack. Recharges on short rest.

Legend
Valda was nearly crushed under a veritable pile of boulders, but she suddenly burst forth, standing tall, and she flipped a rock off of herself, sending a very big boulder crashing into the shins of the armored Hill Giant as he dashed toward her.

OOC: @Shadowedeyes Yup. That works!
