Is this damage a result of some weakness by the skeletons that they catch on fire? Because there's nothing in the description of Wall of Fire that they take extra damage. They take the damage on my turn or if they walk through the wall itself.

Just asking in case we're making the spell more powerful than it should be or if I've misread it.

It's the rules for catching on fire under Heat Dangers in the DMG, p. 303-304. It's specific to spells that inflict non-instantaneous magic fire damage. The text notes Wall of Fire as an example.
