Marvel Civil War #1, what do you think?

Aaron L

Just read Civil War #1. Not too bad. A lot of this I can see happening, and some of the heroes I can see what side theyd be n. But I really find it unbelievable that ANY mutants would be for the registration act. ESCPECIALLY Bishop, who came from an alternate future where mutant registration and concentration camps were standard!

Anyone else read this yet?

PS, I love Caps response. Captain America is just rad.

SHIELD gunning for Cap because he disagrees with a law that hasn't been approved yet is forced storytelling at best. And Captain America wouldn't really be against registration, since it's not unlike soldiers registering, then going into reserve. Every male in Swiss is considered a reserve soldier, and can be drafted in case of war.

Marvel lost waaay back during the Sentry smoke-and-mirrors fals publicity stunt in Wizard magazine...

Although I enjoyed the issue, the whole Cap going rogue thing has been done before. Anyone remember when he wore a black costume and carried a shield that Tony Stark made him? Been there, done that.

My problem is that if you use solicitations to order your comics or if you dare go to a comics website or listen to anything Joe Quesada has to say, you knew EVERY SINGLE THING that was going to happen in this issue before it happened.

Quesada thinks that he gets better sales by spoiling entire issues and storylines so speculators, hype-mongers and fence-sitters will buy the books, but he kills all the fun and annoys the actual readers.

I love the Marvel characters but I've hated the direction of the MU for the last 5 years. I'll always be interested, but some of the stuff they do these characters makes me want to scream.

At least having the Runaways and Young Avengers mix it up in their first big crossover should be fun.

Cap did not go rogue in that. He simply gave up the name and uniform when he refused to become a government stooge, so the higher ups gave it to John Walker, who is now the USAgent. Despite that, Steve Rogers continued to do the hero bit as The Captain.

What happened in Civil War is totally different. Cap is actively revolting against the superhuman registration act, and has not turned himself in. There's a big difference.

The Captain.

And before that, Nomad.

Both leading to others using the outifts with Captain becoming US Agent and Nomad getting killed almost offstage by Winter Soldier.

Ditto. Avengers Disassembled left a very sour taste in my mouth.

Avengers Disassembled was mean-spirited trash, a throwback to an era of comics best forgotten.

New Avengers is well-written, but putting the likes of Spider-Man, Luke Cage, and Wolverine in their ranks is moronic, and in Spidey and Wolvie's case it's basically a shameless sales gimmick.
