It's not about hating on 5e, at least for me. D&D is a constantly evolving, changing beast. It can't remain the same forever, it will and has to change to survive. I don't see any reason why expressing sentiment about how it could evolve is bad for any discussion.

And maybe, like cetaceans, that survival could come via returning to the sea?

Also, 4e "bombed" because WotC didn't pay attention to the desires of it's player base at the time, instead looking at overall trends of the moment.

Hot take: the desires of the player base are always changing. It could be that 4e was simply too ahead of it's time. We may never know...or maybe 6e will come out and bring back Move, Minor, Standard and AEUD. Or something completely different.

But the game will change. It's inevitable.

Ah yes. "I'm the sophisticated connoisseur unlike you plebs" argument. Classic.

Michelin star restaurants are hella rare and usually pretty damn expensive. So of course far fever people frequent them. But this is not like that, 4e's position in its time was similar to the other editions. And it bombed.

So the thread is about how someone says they were using 4e's design sensibilities and continues to use them in the current system and the obvious solution was to run in, tell him to play just 4e and rudely dump on 4e for no reason?

I'm simply wondering why not use the real deal rather than try to hack an edition one doesn't like to be a bit like it.
