@TaranTheWanderer If we keep going, and you want to keep playing Donnell, I guess we can catch him up in level to everyone else. I want him to seem subordinate to the others, so we'll keep him young and impressionable (though maybe we'll skip a few months and say he hit a growth spurt or something) and maybe build him sub-optimal here-and-there, but I don't want to force you to play a lower-level character just because you took on an NPC squire.

Have him find a magical book or something. This way there’s an in story justification. Just an idea.

Yeah, of course I figured he'd be still learning the ropes from the others up until the group decides he's capable or deserves a say in how things go. This game has been pretty easy to play because I haven't had to make many actual decisions.

From our discussions, Donnell was 17 or 18 so I didn't figure he was a child or anything. Just a young adult. One with skills but with very little real-world experience. I figure witnessing several bloody combats and seeing masses of people get murdered by giants makes people grow up pretty quick. Lots of recruits in WW1 and 2 were 17-20 and witnessed some horrific things.

So while he's not Green anymore, he's still has a lot of living to do and, of course, has a lot of respect for the others and will defer to their experience and judgement. In any case, I can play him however you want or I can make a new character - whatever you prefer, although my preference would be to keep this character than to try to establish a new relationship with another character.

Maybe he turns 18 shortly after this. Then I can sing Alice Cooper songs in my head while I post.

Not sure if I get a vote, but my vote is to get you to pick whatever you prefer. A leveled up Donnell (heck, he could find an hidden artifact, disappears for a minute to the others, and reappears with 10 years having passed for him - in a far off where he had to fight to survive), or create a new character.
My 2 cents. It’s hard in pbp to find reliable players, and we’re lucky we have a good group, so let’s keep the group intact.

All those who remember the war wont soon forget what they have seen

In World War II the average age of the combat soldier was 26
In Vietnam he was 19....

Anyway Kahru believes that Donnell has earned his respect as a blooded warrior and veteran of The Hill Giants Steading. Kahru would be happy to teach him a few more tricks, maybe a hunt while we head for the Crag could earn few more levels - iirc there is a rumored dragon unaccounted for...

Yeah, honestly - it's not like Levels are really a Thing. So if Donnell goes from being half the level of his "teachers" to their equals, I don't think that it entirely matters, as long as we are happy with the results. I'm the kind of DM who can probably make any story work that the player wants to go with, as long as said player is playing in Good Faith, which I expect Taran to do.

You want to add a bunch of spellcasting levels to him? THEN he went downstairs and found Something Best Forgotten. You want to stay a Fighter/Rogue? Cool. He's getting better at those things. Easy.

A few questions and comments for Group 2 (and please be careful for spoilers for Group 1, who haven't finished yet).

1) I know you all want to keep going, which I love - but please can we take a break until, say January, so I can catch up on a few of my other games? I'd appreciate it.
2) I'd like to use 2024 Rules when we start up again. You okay with that?
3) Level 11 is getting pretty high for PBP - adjudicating spells and such can take a lot of time. Can you try to keep your characters simple when you rebuild them, in particular when it comes to things that fit poorly with PBP like Reaction abilities and features with a lot of moving parts, if you get what I mean. It can be as complicated as you like on YOUR end, but do your best to go easy on me. The exception, IMO, is Conjured Creatures like the recent Elemental. They're actually not that bad, as long as they don't have Reactions (see where I'm going?)
4) On a purely aesthetic level: Should we start whole new thread(s) or just keep going with the ones we have? Any Opinion?

1. Of course!
2. (And this covers 3)
Because of the new weapon abilities, there are a lot of saving throws and opposed roles. So, as long as you are ok with that, I’m happy to use 2024 rules. I think that this issue would happen regardless of level. I plan on going 5th level fighter at minimum and 3 levels of rogue. I might keep my character at 10th so as to be slightly behind the group. I don’t plan on buying the new rules so hopefully I can fumble along.
4. I don’t mind either way but I’d be up for a new IC thread and an accompanying Treasure thread. The RG thread could be the same.

If you do start a new one, I would put some of those world building posts (with all the NPCs) from the old OOC thread at the beginning of the new thread(s)and add some of the new allies and NPCs. (Or add them to the RG)
