To Krawlinstar, it seems very quiet upstairs. Lia can only make out the occasional whispered chatter of the clerks downstairs, who appear to be hesitant to leave but unwilling to stay. Other than that, things are quiet upstairs.

GM: For the purposes of this encounter, I will assume Lia and Krawlinstar are the only ones near the door when Krawlinstar opens it. Petron and Erik are exploring other rooms or down the hallway; whatever their player's prefer.
Krawlinstar opens the door to the room, but as soon as he turns the lever a pair of jets detract from the ceiling surprising Lia and Krawlinstar with icy cold blasts. Apparently their usual level of caution (read: pass Perception) wasn't enough to notice the trap. Lia was lucky enough to be on the edge of the blast and easily dodged out of the way (natural 1) but Krawlinstar wasn't so lucky, being caught just close enough to feel his flesh chill to an uncomfortable degree (Reflex 11 for 11 cold damage; 5 ongoing cold damage/save ends). Before the cleric and ranger can react however, the jets blast them again. However this time Lia is the unlucky one as she turns to fast an icy blast she wasn't expecting behind her (Ref 18; 10 cold damage and 5 ongoing cold damage/save ends). Krawlinstar just barely manages to avoid a second blast by hugging the wall (Ref 10).
GM: So what occured was a surprise attack during the first round. During the second round everyone in the party lost initiative.
Initiative
25 icy jets trap (blast 3 emanates on the square in front of the door)
24 Lia <--
14 Petron
10 Erik
07 Krawlinstar

If we survive this, I'm going to kill him. Lia thinks. He knows better than to open a door before I've checked it for traps.
"Get back!" She shouts, and quickly follows her own advice, retreating down the hall. Normally, she'd try and disarm a trap, but another one of those blasts might well knock her unconscious, if not kill her. So she fired a couple of arrows at one of the devices emitting the blast, instead.[sblock=actions]free: talk
minor: if possible, declare the trap as her quarry
move: move back 7 squares, or as far as she can go while having a clear shot at the trap (minimum past the blast radius; if she can't get a shot off after retreating that far, she won't take one)
standard: twin strike vs. trap
[/sblock]
After firing a couple of shots, she shook off the lingering effects of the freezing jets (saving throw succeeded).

One of Lia's arrows strikes one of the jets, which whirr about as they continue to attempt to spray the area with icy cold frost.
GM: Lia hit with the first attack for 8 damage. Both jets remain.

Petron, Krawlinstar, and Erik are up.

Don't worry Lia,this is just a trap.we have overcome great challenges before. - Krawlinstar says trying to minimize the danger he and Lia is facing.then he tries to disintegrate the trap with Pelor's light, but he fails totally.

OOC: Man,something must be wrong with this dice roller...

OOC: Kwal's not in much better shape than Lia; he's taken 16 damage (11 from being hit once + 5 ongoing before he saved) to her 15, and he's only got 4 HP more than she does. And because he didn't move, he's still in the blast area of the trap. Also, convention is generally to use italics for thoughts and "quoted text" for what PCs actually say.

OOC: I know your PC just thought, drothgery. i have answered to your ''get back''.and anyone uses italics and quotes in whatever mean they find better.there's no rule for this.also,if my PC dies here,i'm not going to lost my sleep because of this. you need to relax man, this is just a game.:hmm:

GM: I am going to assume Krawlinstar moved out of the area of the trap. And since you both saved versus the ongoing damage, we can drop out of initiative.
As you escape from the icy blasts of the trap, they continue to whirr about for a moment blanketing the hallway with frost before stopping. Luckily, you survived. The door is slightly ajar now, but all seems calm now.
GM: You can attempt to disable the trap, or destroy the jets, whatever you prefer. Or you could simply ignore it and try to find another way into the room.
