[Angel] 2/11/04 *Spoilers*

Actually, while personality traits do seem to carry over, a being's moral disposition doesn't seem to be affected by being turned into a vampire either. Harmony is making a concerted effort to be good and Darla sacrificed herself for another... these aren't the acts of inherently evil beings. This episode, if it had any redeeming value, basically put forth the premise that most of the time vampires are evil because they choose to be evil.

But, Harmony is a perfect example, she's not "good to be good" she's "good because of consequences". She wants to stick around, so she plays by the rules. I've also never seen a vampire not LIKE being a vampire. But, the character was really too short lived to be much, so who knows.

Vocenoctum covered the Harmony issue, so I'll cover the Darla issue. Darla sacrificed herself because of the effect the baby's soul had on her, not out of any bout of conscience on her own.

Harmony could have easily left W&H and reverted to being a vampire, though as she mentions in one episode this season (and I forgot which one, sorry :o), she wasn't "good at being a vampire" even outside of W&H. She's consciously choosing to be good, and regardless of circumstance that means that vampires can choose whether or not to be evil. Most just take the easy road out and are evil, because what's the point of being good without a soul? Some though, like Harmony and presumably Spike before he got the soul, are/were actively persuing good.

In the harmony-centric episode, she says she couldn't cut it on her own. The only people she really knows are the folks in Angel's circle, and to maintain that connection she must be good.
As an example, when she thought she killed someone, she was more afraid of being found out than any remorse about the death.

I think Lawson came to Angel to die. For some reason maybe because of Angel's soul he could totally give into being a demon. That was the take I got from watching the show.

I enjoyed this episode. Spike is my favorite character always has been. I like watching him and Angel. There has always been a connenction between them have you noticed that for all his threats Angel has never killed him?

I am enjoying watching the two of them and they each handle having a soul. Let's face it Angel soul was forced on him by a gypsy curse and Angelus is always looking for a way out. But Spike chose to have a soul because of his love for Buffy so I don't think there is an evil William the Bloddy trying to get out.
