Battlestar Galactica: Season 2 Part 9; NSCR/9.16.2005

Did anyone else catch SciFi calling next week the end of the season? I know there will be a long hiatus (like Farscape had to do for the production schedule) but I could have sworn that this season was 22 eps and this was just the halfway point. Was there a change that I missed and now they are cutting that in half and calling 10 eps a season?

Not that it matters what they call it as long as they keep making more...

Its technically just a midseason break, as the rest of the Season 2 eps will start up in January.

Yeah, I know about the break (as I mentioned in my post) but SFC is calling it the season finale. I was asking if anyone has heard news to contrary to what you and I know to be true.

BO - Yeah, it sucks that we have to wait for January. It will be worse when we see whatever cliffhanger they have in store for us. Feels like Farscape all over again. That's a huge compliment... :)

8. Tigh also seems to make every wrong decision (stop the fighter production, take the moonshine, try to shoot Boomer as she's shutting down the Cylon fleet), if they ever make a BSG d20 game, he better have a Wisdom penalty, he seems to be a textbook case of a low wisdom.

It apperas (to me atleast) that they are using his character to make Adama look like a much stronger/better leader - and it seems pretty heavy handed.

7. Notice that Tigh took a jar of "solvent" (i.e. moonshine alcohol from Tyrol's still) for himself?

I disagree that he "took" it. It was a trade.

Remember that Tigh entered the room, confronted Chief, Chief said he's doing it because he needed something to trade for parts from the other ships in the fleet.

Tigh pauses, thinks, then mentions that he knows a ship in the fleet that has offered Galactica two engines from among their parts so long as someone from Galactica comes to get the engines. Tigh then grabs his jar because he effectively "gave" chief the tip for where to locate the engines to make Blackbird fly.

I think Tigh is there to show that the best of the best didn't survive. The fleet was lucky that got Adama. He's also ripe for character development as he is deeply flawed.

What a fantastic episode! I found last week's dissapointing, but this one brought the series right back up to par for me. Great drama, tension, emotion, and beautiful acting. I actually found myself choked up at the christening of the ship. Bravo. Does anyone have a link to a video clip of next week's finale? I can't seem to find one on the sci-fi site.

I'm personally pretty enthusiastic about the Pegasus/Resurection Ship midseason cliffhanger. "The Living Legend" was probably the most famous and most fan-loved episode of original BSG, so it will be interesting to see how they do it in new BSG.

In the year and a half of New BSG, they've now gone through most of the larger plot elements of original BSG:
The Cylon Holocaust & Fleeing the Colonies
Smashing a Cylon fortress for a major victory
Discovering the location of Earth
Rediscovering the Battlestar Pegasus

The only thing they haven't done is the whole Count Iblis/Beings of Light plotline, (well, and Baltar becoming a commander for the Cy), and while new BSG has some very religious overtones, literally having the devil himself and angels fighting over the Galactica is a little Over the Top for new BSG it seems. By original BSG progression, the next thing they really did was find Earth (The abysmal "Galactica 1980" show that even Glen Larson likes to pretend never happened).

While I liked this episode this bothered me. If you can interact with computers it should be easier to tell who is a cylon and who is not. There has to be something biological they can look for that humans don't have that doesn't require an all day blood test. An x-ray, MRI, CAT scan. Grrrrrrr.
There may well be some giveaway that could show up, but they don't know what to look for. Also, Cylon tech appears to be superior to Colonial tech in virtually every way, the Humano-cylons may well be designed to specifically foil normal Colonial medical technology, with biomechanical elements which appear normal to scanners. They do have technology that can tell a difference, it's just that since Baltar lied when he got a positive reading, nobody believes it anymore.

I thought this episode had a very nice pace to it (except I thought the building of the viper went a little to quick. Probably just my aviation mech side coming forward) Some of the past episodes, while very enjoyable, I thought the pacing was just slightly off. But BSG tries really hard with the drama and they are never too far off their mark. It's probably the differenct between having a 2 + hour movie and having less than an hour episode. Very pleased with season 2 though and look forward to many more hours of watching.

I think the boomer model was designed to be very close to the humans and that contact with them makes the model more human. The original Boomer was very close to this, but in the end her cylon side showed its true colors. I truly believe the new boomer on galactica is in league with the humans. Her contact and pregnacy with Helo has help solidify that. She will be part of the thread that will maybe draw the 2 races together toward the end of the shows run. And Perhaps their will be some episodes dealing with a bad boomer/good boomer confusion on the part of galactica.
