Wait, so which superhero game is the ultimate one?

Well... since he says M&M is the PENultimate... The ULTIMATE must be Blood and Vigilance. ;)

I love when people misuse the word "penultimate".

Boy, a single grammatical error sure can destroy the intent of a lot of words. Thanks for the correction--obviously I meant "ultimate". :heh:

Heh. No problem.
I've been waiting years to get someone on that one because someone else got me with that same word.
Probably a dozen years ago, or so...
Feel free to pass on the lesson at your leisure and when the opportunity arises. ;)

I aim to please.

You aim TOO, please. ;)

I tried but when i read the post I laughed before I could choke down the bite. How would you create ChIcKeN SaLaD PrOjEcTiOn as a power using Blood and Vigilance? On a Side note..I think two of my co-workers are headed to get checked as a result of the spew. Man it was awful!

[end]silly lunchtime shenanigans[/end]

I own most of the superhero games that are out there (mostly for the art in them and it is interesting to me how different systems handle power creation). I noticed there is a lot of cheering and booing going on between different systems. Why not just agree that different people have different tastes in game mechanics?

Compared to Wizards of the Coasts books...How does Mutant and Masterminds 2ed or Blood and Vigilance stack up in regards to the editing department?

Regards,
Walt

Unfortunately, this means that WotC will be investing its considerable resources in a project which is very unlikely to be successful.
I am continually amazed that people feel confident saying this. Do they sell crystal balls at Wal-Mart now? Does your personal level of interest really determine a product's viability?

While the company seems intent on cramming an endless stream of core rulebooks, campaign settings, and "rules accessories" down our throats, it also seems unwilling to make any of these items as useful as it could by providing a steady flow of quality adventure material.
There have already been many threads about this issue, to which the general response is: there's tons of adventure material out there.

A subscription to Dungeon alone will give you more adventures than you could ever use. WotC has 60 D&D adventures and 26 d20M adventures free for download on their site; advenure paths for D&D, Eberron, and one starting for FR; two mega adventures that would each provide a year of play; and a new line of adventure-plus-accessories (maps, minis, etc.) products. Join the RPGA, and you have access to even more adventures. Then there's products from Necromancer Games, Green Ronin, Atlas Games, Goodman Games, Malhavoc, S&SS, Kenzer... the list goes on.

(For comparison, M&M has how many published adventures? One form Green Ronin? Maybe ten or so from SuperLink publishers?)

d20Supers fills an obvious niche in the d20M product line, and is probably of huge interest to the d20M fanbase. As to competing with M&M, I have no idea if WotC even cares. It's not a zero-sum game.

Chicken Salad Projection
You possess the ability to discharge chicken salad from your mouth as a ranged attack.
Duration: Instantaneous
Activation Time: One action
Range: Short
Exclusivity: Exclusive
Effect: The character is able to discharge chicken salad from her mouth as a ranged attack.
The character is able to disgorge inordinate quantities of chicken salad from her mouth as a ranged touch attack. Any character hit with the chicken salad must succeed at a Will save (DC = 5+1 per power point invested in this power) or flee in terror and general yuckiness for 1d6+1 rounds.
Stunt: Taking a stunt in this power increases the range from Short to Medium, and another stunt increases the range from Medium to Long.

Gods, I hope someone uses that power sometime. ;)

Not a bad idea.
Kinda like I did way back in post #85?

Honestly, though... I suspect it'll be its own take. It might have similarities with which one could try to tie it to M&M, or 4CTF, or B&V, or D20 Modern Super Heroes, or any of a number of other Supers Genre games (and I... errr... anxiously await the inevitable "LOL OMFG! OMFG! They totally stole [x] from [insert favorite supers game, here]!!!!! LOLOLOLOLO! OMFG OMFG OMFG!!!"). And I further suspect that, like me, most people who have a favorite Supers game will stick to that, and will mine D20 Super Heroes for any interesting new mechanics or powers that may have been missed, and bolt those on top of their existing game. Thus fulfilling its true nature... as a toolkit.

:D

Well... I did make a couple of editing mistakes in Blood and Vigilance. I was in a rush.

I have played Champions and V&V before it, as well as FASERIP Marvel, and M&M2 trumps all.

Classes just DON'T WORK for superheroes. When will people learn?

When has Champions ever had classes? HERO is the ultimate expression of the point-buy philosophy.

GURPS Powers is coming out... Should be very interesting to see how this marries itself to GURPS 4th ed.

DINGDINGDINGDINGDING!!!!!!!

WINNA!!!!

I said this awhile back, and I'll say it again. WOTC's d20 Modern product line has been "playing the hits". They're putting out additions to their line for the most popular genre of modern gaming.

Modern fantasy? Check. (Btw I continually hear WOTC slammed for focusing on "D&D Modern" early on. Anyone who thinks this isn't popular, go rent The Mummy and Buffy Season 1, then hit yourself over the head with them.)

Sci fi? Check.

Post apoc? Check.

Cybergear? Check.

And now Supers? Nice addition.

As a matter of fact if you look at that LINE of products (as Im sure WOTC's brand manager is), you see a lot of cross over potential.

Supers could offer a different method of gaining mutations or creating mutated animals for Apocalypse.

Cybergear would be a great way to do your Cyborg member in that new Teen Titans game. Etc.

Supers plus Modern plus Future? Three words: Kree. Skrull. War.

Pardon I was just drooling.

Im sure this is exactly what WOTC is thinking: "Supers would be a nice addition to our line".

Not: "What will the fans of other games think about this?"

Chuck
