Dallas Gameday Games & Signup!

Bad news guys, my work schedual has changed. Instead of having Saturday off like I was promised, I have to go to a meeting from 8:45-10, and then come back to work from 2:30-9:30. This means that I will not be able to participate in either game.

Sorry guys. -_- There are some days when I hate my boss.

I've got some pregens printed up. 4, I think. I figure most people are bringing their own, so that should be fine.

I need to do a miniature headcount. I may need to paint another one. Hmm. I'll have to gather up all the minis I need.

Otherwise, I'm good to go. Oh, I still need to print the module. :heh:
I got my dwarf. Oh, and GenX sells individual DDM minis. :)

I have my own mini...albeit unpainted.

That's OK- her Order's habits are silvery grey anyway... ;)

Bento, do we need minis for your game or are you supplying some?

I had a great time guys! This was the first time I've ever gotten to run a PC in a one-shot type environment and I found out its different (see below).

True 20 was interesting...I'm thinking about giving it closer scrutiny. I liked the way that weapons seem to have a more realistic lethality even though the overall combat system was slightly more abstract than the D20 system. I even liked how it handled stats. You don't have to translate a 15Str into a +2 bonus when your stat=bonus.

The dragon hunt was nice & nasty...water, water everywhere, and no PC prepared for it.

Getting a draw was pretty cool, but we should have won.

I mean that. We really should have won. I didn't figure it out until sitting around the dinner table- it turns out I didn't play Sister Shrike to her fullest potential.

I forgot to take advantage of at least one of her feats and a class ability.

The feat I forgot was Deft Opportunist, which grants a +4 to AoO attacks. While she didn't get the most use out of her Combat Reflexes, S.Shrike did make a lot of AoOs, several of which missed.

+4Att not enough? Wait, there's more!

Kensai can increase their Str by +8 for brief periods of time, but I completely forgot about that ability. That's another +4/+4 I left on the table.

That +4/+4 and the occasional +8/+4 would definitely have turned the result of the combat from draw to victory.

(This is where I'd like to have a "slapping myself in the forehead" smily.)

But that is a result of unfamilarity with the PC. Regardless of the length of the creative process in designing a PC, there is always a learning curve as to how best to run the PC. Had I been running S.Shrike for a few months, I doubt I'd have forgotten those 2 bonuses- they would have come up repeatedly.

In the final analysis, the S.Shrike build would have to be considered successful- she's a keeper! I just have to remember how to run her.

I've been thinking about how in both games the BBEGs got away. :(

Especially in the final round Nathan rolled a 20 and my demon made his save and flew away. I snatched defeat from the jaws of victory! :p

As for the dragon, I'll admit I didn't think a little more broadly on spells. I was so focused on buffing and defense I totally over looked Wind Walk and any spells that could hold the dragon down. Too bad plate mail and high water don't mix well.

I had a great time meeting you all and gaming! Here's to next time! :)

My buddy was lamenting his spell choice as well. In retrospect, for instance, he surmised that Mirror Image might have saved his life.

Anyway, I'm not a registered user- at least, not yet- however both you and d-k are. Why don't you send me an email and we can all keep in touch?

Back home safe and sound. And a great time was had by all. I'll try to get the pics up post-haste!

Loved the True20 game. While I admit I don't think I'm an immediate convert to the system, I can see where it would be a good game given the right "feel". I think its' simplicity is a strong-point.

On the dragon game - yea, you guys should have won. I think there was at least one round where the dragon probably should have provoked an AoO, and I didn't give it. I try to keep the game very, very fast (as I think you guys can attest to), and at that level, with complex characters, and the speed at which it moves, things can get missed. A few more APs might have also won the day.

But, technically, the party was still pretty healthy. Given some time, you could have found them - there is an underwater tunnel which connects the first pool to the pool in the dragon's lair. They were hiding there - green dragons can breath water indefinitely, but with no means to restore their hit points, they were sitting targets. In theory, the party could have searched the area some more - discovered no second exit, and rested in the entranceway, Drooj could have memorized a water breathing spell, and it would have been all over with. The party would have been completely rested, the dragon had no escape, and the next day it would have been done for.

So, victory through attrition, as it where.

BTW, check out the Collaborative Cave thread to get a copy of the module and see which areas you missed.

It very easily could have saved his life.

Plus, it was just totally bad luck that I happened to CRITICAL on my AoO. Had I not have done that, he probably would have still gotten his spell off - I would have been totally dead at that point.
