The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

Sannit nods. "We should stick with what worked last time. I'll stand out front with you and the others can flank with bows." He takes his spear and tests the edge with his thumb. "Having said that, we should be careful not to get too confident, take no risks. These warriors might be stronger than the ones we faced before."

Bolo concentrates on the lone individual in the cave. Is it a captive or a leader?

Turtle's mind reels with the concepts of which humans to attack or not. He waits.

Setting the Trap

Merin and Tor are in favor of that plan. Merin says, "Tor and I will both be on bows this time, my paralyzation didn't prove that effective on the last try, their primal minds must be somewhat resistant. But it's really hard to resist an arrow to the gut, especially when the archer attacks from cover, and by surprise."

OOC: Sheldon, Indigo, and Sannit wait for the others to get into position and then circle around to come upon the opening from its facing side.

Bolo concentrates on the lone individual in the cave. Is it a captive or a leader?
GM: It is not possible to tell, only that it is a live person. A dead person could not be detected in this manner. It would require a different kind of search.

OOC: Bolo, Merin, and Tor spread out forward, all on the same side of the entrance aiming the same direct and knock arrows. Turtle waits with Bolo. The other three sneak past the archers to circle far to the front of the mouth. At 10 paces, the three stop, and Sannit and Indigo ready weapons. Sheldon is in the center, Indigo to his left, and Sannit to his right.

Sheldon begins speaking loudly,
I'm telling you that pig ran off this way.
GM: Immediately upon hearing the voice, all 10 known assailants spill from the entrance to their hold, charging madly at the 3 visible Seekers. The other 3 loose arrows.

[sblock=Attack Rolls]Bolo = 90 + 83 = 173
Merin = 97 + 48 + 77 = 222
Tor = 62 + 72 = 134[/sblock]
[sblock=GM Tip]The easiest way to improve this skill, at this point, is to improve Cohesion.[/sblock]
OOC: These 10 are garbed in the same manner as the others previously encountered and equally divided between male and female as well. Arrows fly into the rear of the group.

GM: Bolo's arrow hits a male, passing into the lower back and lodging. He falls.

  • Body = 10 - 20 = -10 incapacitated
  • Mind = 10 - 10 = 0 unconscious

Merin's arrow hits a female, piercing left center of the spine and entering the heart. She falls.

  • Body = 10 - 30 = -30 incapacitated
  • Mind = 10 - 20 = -10 unconscious
  • Essence = 10 - 10 = 0 dead

Tor's arrow hits another male, passing into the lower back and lodging. He falls.

  • Body = 10 - 10 = 0 incapacitated

7 are still active.

OOC: Surprise action is complete.

GM: One second of time has passed.

[sblock=Combat Sequencing:](note: no armor hindrance for Sheldon, Indigo, or Sannit for having 1st action readied.)
Indigo = 05 - 40 = -35
Sannit = 28 - 36 = -8
Bolo = 09 + 30 - 35 = 4
Turtle = 38 - 19 = 19
Sheldon = 66 - 43 = 23
Tor = 03 + 68 - 35 = 36
Merin = 37 + 39 - 38 = 38
Headhunters = 68 + 15 + 31 - 36 = 78[/sblock]
[sblock=GM Tip]The easiest way to improve this rating, at this point, is to increase Motility.[/sblock]
OOC: The Headhunters have not yet reacted to their fallen members but continue to charge forward. They are 7 paces from Sheldon, Indigo, and Sannit. 3 paces from Bolo and Turtle. 2 paces from Merin, and 1 pace from Tor.

GM: Indigo waits with her swords ready to receive the charge. The next 3 actions belong to Sannit, Bolo, and Turtle, in that order.

Merin will drop his bow in favor of using Way for his second attack (paralysis.)

Tor will also drop his bow, switching to Sword & Board, attacking the nearest (probably last / rear guard) headhunter.

Sannit decides these are not worth spending a crossbow bolt on and readies his spear to attack the first opponent that draws close enough.

Bolo will continue to fire arrows, keeping herself flanking the hostiles so that a miss does not hit one of the Seekers.

Turtle crouches, smelling the blood and adrenaline, but he knows his job. He will stay with Bolo and attack anyone that threatens her.

First Combat Sequence

Sannit decides these are not worth spending a crossbow bolt on and readies his spear to attack the first opponent that draws close enough.
OOC: Sannit delays as he waits, like Indigo, on the rush to reach him. The nearest opponent is 7 paces away running forward at full speed wielding a bone axe.

OOC: Bolo draws an arrow to fire while beginning to move to her left toward the running Headhunters.

Kwargrow said:

OOC: Turtle moves with Bolo, keeping pace.

OOC: Sheldon, who is also waiting on the rush, manipulates way at the distance, picking a female toward the front of the group.

GM: The woman convulses and falls. 6 are still charging forward having only completed 1 step of their continued forward motion.

Combat Sequence: 1: Part 2

Tor will also drop his bow, switching to Sword & Board, attacking the nearest (probably last / rear guard) headhunter.
OOC: Tor drops his bow, and as he is stepping forward in pursuit, begins to sling his shield into place and draw his sword. The quarry has completed 2 full running steps and is now dead even with Tor, though oblivious, yet to his presence.

Tellerian Hawke said:
Merin will drop his bow in favor of using Way for his second attack (paralysis.)
OOC: Merin begins to concentrate on his intended manipulation even as he drops his bow, having no need to move and close on the target. Before the Headhunters can complete another pace of distance, Merin finishes and targets a male, who seems to have completely resisted the effect.

[sblock=Paralyze]Paralyze = 98 + 49 = 147 * not a crit due to flipping the numbers
Resistance = 100 + 07 + 44 = 151
**sorry dude, good rolls happen sometime for NPCs**[/sblock]
[sblock=GM Tip]The easiest way for Merin to improve this skill is to increase Cohesion or Personality.[/sblock]
GM: The 6 Headhunters continue to run forward. As they are still 3 paces from the bait, they notice that others of their numbers have fallen and that Tor is giving chase. The closest one to face Tor turns to face his ready sword. Sheldon and Merin are also able to generate a second manipulation of way.

[sblock=Tor]Attack = 76 + 75 - 83 = 68
Damage = 68%*30 = 20
Body = 10 - 20 = -10 incapacitated
Mind = 10 - 10 = 0 unconscious[/sblock]
GM: The man turns in time to find himself impaled upon Tor's sword, The forward momentum propelling him into the shield, but Tor is unmoved due to having a mass of about 3x that of the Kaalatala. He tilt his sword and the man falls to the ground.

[sblock=Sheldon]Lightning = 21 + 49 = 70
Resistance = 87[/sblock]
GM: Sheldon again tries to manipulate way to electrocute an assailant, but the intended victim resists.

[sblock=Merin]Paralyze = 80 + 49 = 129
Resistance = 34 + 44 = 78
Damage = 129 - 78 = 51% * 8 = 4
Mind = 10 - 4 = 6 slightly slowed[/sblock]
GM: Targeting the same one as previously, Merin feels he has had some effect.

Combat Sequence 1: Part 3

OOC: The Headhunters complete the 10 paces run at the close of 1 second, having realized the predicament of their situation just before engaging the bait. The 6 remaining in forward charge pair off on Sannit, Sheldon, and Indigo who are ready.

OOC: Sannit, who has reach with his spear, stabs at his nearest before he can even complete his last closing step.

[sblock=Sannit]Attack = 73 + 82 - 83 = 72
Damage = 72% * 20 = 14
Coverage = 50 < 100 = fail
Body = 10 - 14 = -4 incapacitated
Mind = 10 - 4 = 6 slightly slowed[/sblock]
[sblock=GM Tip]The easiest way for Sannit to improve this skill is to increase Confluence.[/sblock]
GM: Sannit stabs the charging man in the gut above his armor coverage, impaling the man and letting him falls, switching to his faster axes for the remaining foes. The second opponent reaches Sannit, swinging her axe in wild abandon.

[sblock=Headhunter]Attack = 85 + 83 = 168
Defense = 87 + 82 = 169[/sblock]
GM: Sannit narrowly avoids the wild swing as both reposition for reengagement.

OOC: Sheldon, bare-handed, attempts to avoid the incoming axe.

[sblock=Sheldon]NPC Attack = 81 + 83 = 164
Counter = 76 + 80 + 55(speed difference) = 211 - 164 = 47 sucess
Damage = 47% * 6 = 3
Mind = 10 - 3 = 7 barely dazed
Motility = 72% * 6 > 3 = resists[/sblock]
GM: Sheldon avoids the incoming blow, wrenching the arm, and slinging the attacker who manages to maintain her footing barely dazed by the counter. The man running beside her, avoids the collision of his kin making his own attempt at connecting his axe.

[sblock=Headhunter]Attack = 85 + 82 = 167
Defense = 76 + 80 = 156
Damage = 167 - 156 = 11% * 10 = 1
Armor = 04 < 100 = Bracers[/sblock]
GM: The second assailant manages to make contact, but Sheldon is able to get his braced arm in the way, which soaks an potential damage.

OOC: Indigo, who has been waiting ready, slides into motion as the man enters her range, intending to dodge the incoming swing and counter with her sword.

[sblock=Indigo]NPC attack = 81 + 83 = 164
Counter = 20 + 77 + 113 = 210 - 164 = 46 success
Damage = 46% * 20 = 9
Armor = 49 < 50 = skirt
Soak = 10 - 9 = 1 damaged armor[/sblock]
GM: Indigo avoids the incoming axe making a sweeping cut with her sword but is not quite able to cut through the hog hide skirt armor.

OOC: At the end of the first combat sequence, there remains 1 foe facing Sannit, 2 foes facing Sheldon, 1 foe facing Indigo, and 1, very seriously wounded, on the ground 3 paces away. Tor is 6 paces away. Merin is 7, and Bolo and Turtle are 7.

Combat Sequence 2

[sblock=Sequencing]Sheldon = 38 + 43 - 43 = 38
Tor = 38 + 68 - 35 = 71
Merin = 55 + 39 - 38 = 56
Indigo = 25 + 46 - 40 = 31
Sannit = 56 + 55 - 36 = 75
Bolo = 15 + 30 - 35 = 10
Turtle = 26 - 19 = 7
NPC = 29 + 31 - 36 = 24[/sblock]
GM: Combat Sequencing:
07: Turtle, 1st action
10: Bolo, 1st action
24: Headhunters, 1st action
31: Indigo, 1st action
38: Sheldon, 1st action
56: Merin, 1st action
71: Tor, 1st action
75: Sannit, 1st action

OOC: The Headhunters will, mindlessly, continue to attack who they are facing. 1st intended actions belong to Bolo and Turtle who are 7 paces from the enemy who are engaged in melee with other members of the Seekers.

Turtle lunges forward to engage in melee with the closest attacker.

Bolo drops her bow, pulls her kukris and follows. She will attack the same headhunter as Turtle until they are incapacitated and move to the next closest.

Sannit keeps fighting.

INTENDED ACTIONS:

Tor will get a running start, leaping into the air, coming down ON TOP OF the nearest headhunter, bashing him in the head with the shield!

Merin will run forward, stopping at the outer edge of his Way manipulation range; he will then set one of the headhunters ON FIRE.

GM: **Note: Merin has no need to move. All opponents are within range.
