Day 96: Combat Sequencing

The current party line has Sannit, Bolo, and Turtle in the lead followed by Saemund and Vadin. Sheldon and Indigo are in the middle with the pack animals, followed by Merin, Tor, and Myth.

Sheldon takes a stride forward preparing to generate electricity. Indigo commands the pack animals to lie down as she draws both of her steel sabers.

Lumbering forward in an unconcerned manner, perhaps in hopes of larger game, are a breeding pair of large horned lizards. The male is identified by bright green patches on its neck and behind its forward legs.

GM:
OOC: Sequencing: (order of action)
  • Impetus (Collegiate Task) +
  • Body + Motility + Flexibility + Agility +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Wisdom + Acuity +
  • Commercial + Athletic + Coordination + Reflexes

A single combat sequence comprises all actions possible in ONE SECOND of time which is divided into 100 equal parts called tics. Not all characters will be able to act in the first second, especially when using slow weapons.
Impetus:
Affect: Self
Effectiveness:
  • Essence + Cohesion + Evocation +
  • Mind + Will + Discipline +
  • Collegiate + Aberrative
This must be a constant task. It is used to augment the speed of a character's ability to initiate action under the Athletic Task of Sequencing.

Sheldon: 56 + 55 + 83 = 194
Tor: 51 + 45 + 86 = 182
Merin: 56 + 50 + 65 = 171
Myth: 0 + 33 + 50 = 83
Indigo: 51 + 62 + 86 = 199
Sannit: 44 + 52 + 86 = 182
Bolo: 56 + 49 + 61 = 166
Turtle: 0 + 35 + 80 = 115
Saemund: 46 + 44 + 55 = 145
Vadin: 36 + 56 + 65 = 157
Lizards: 0 + 50 + 94 = 144

Indigo is the quickest to react. Being in the middle of the party she intends to rush toward the lizard approaching from her left, toward the end of the party line.
OOC: Reaction Time: 199 - 80 = 119.

Sheldon reacting almost as quickly chooses the lizard approaching the front of the party line. He intends to release a charge of electricity.
OOC: Reaction Time: 194 - 100 = 94.

GM: Sannit and Tor react simultaneously. Each should state their intended action.

Tor will strike (with his "cold blade") the same lizard that Indigo went after.
OOC: Reaction Time: 182 - 120 = 62.

Merin is intending to fry (with fire) the front lizard (which is the one Sheldon is targeting). Merin is going to use the Phoenix Feather to augment his fire spell.
OOC: Reaction Time: 171 - 100 = 71.

Myth will hold back, intending to wait for one of the lizards to engage someone, and then attack it from behind once it is occupied.
OOC: Reaction Time: 83.

Sannit will use Way to heat his spear tip before stepping up and thrusting it at the closest lizard, aiming for any vital, unarmored parts, such as neck or armpit.
OOC: Reaction Time: 182 - 100 = 82.

Saemund will throw his carving axes at the lizard Sheldon attacked.
OOC: Reaction Time: 145 - 80 = 65.

If they are alive after all the attacks, he will retrieve his axe and attack the same lizard with his battle axe.

Day 96: Initiating Combat, Part 2

Indigo is the quickest to react. Being in the middle of the party she intends to rush toward the lizard approaching from her left, toward the end of the party line.
GM:
OOC: Lethal Attack:
  • Fury + Lethality +
  • Body + Strength + Might +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Wisdom +
  • Combat + Melee + Long / Pole / Short
This tasks requires the use of a weapon, though any sharp object held in the hand and used to strike an opponent is considered a weapon for the purpose of determining the outcome of this task. Lethal attacks are intended to damage the body of an opponent. They may also cause a loss of mental faculty (loss of Mind) and ultimately death (loss of Essence).

Indigo: 53 + 62 + 50 = 165
Lizard: 0 + 59 + 61 = 120

Indigo charges toward the lizard, but the lizard proves faster than her sword, launching its entire body at her to knock her down, forcing Indigo to first defend.
GM:
OOC: Lizard: 120 + 85 = 205
Damage: 205 - 49 - 35 - 57 = 64% * 19 = 12
Will: 18 - 12 = 6: dazed
Motility: 12 - 12 = 0: prone

The lizard slaps indigo bodily with its head knocking her to the ground causing her to be somewhat dazed. She stabs with her sword from her prone position.
OOC: Indigo: 165 + 92 + 98 = 355
Damage: 355 - 27 - 58 - 85 - 100 (prone) = 85% * 22 = 19
Soak: 21 - 19 = 2: ineffective

Try as she might Indigo is unable to effectively strike from her prone position.

Sheldon reacting almost as quickly chooses the lizard approaching the front of the party line. He intends to release a charge of electricity.
GM:
OOC: Jolt:Affect / Range:
  • Adhesion + Invocation +
  • Will + Discipline
Effectiveness:
  • Essence + Adhesion + Invocation +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Will + Wisdom + Discipline +
  • Collegiate + Theologic
This causes a visible jolt of electricity to fly from the Bender to the desired target causing bodily harm.

Sheldon: 20 paces, 69%
Effectiveness: 69 + 97 = 166
Resistance: 45 + 81 = 126
Damage: 166 - 126 = 40% * 20 = 8 - 2 (soak) = 6
Body: 10 - 6 = 4: injured

An invisible line between Sheldon and the lizard begins to glow with light and vibrate violently discharging an electric jolt, all in one second's time. The jolt shocks the lizard causing it injury.

Tor will strike (with his "cold blade") the same lizard that Indigo went after.
GM:
OOC: Frost:Affect / Range:
  • Confluence + Hemostasis +
  • Will + Discipline
Effectiveness:
  • Essence + Confluence + Hemostasis +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Will + Wisdom + Discipline +
  • Collegiate + Theologic
This causes the intended target to lose body heat unnaturally (loss of Body). This can also be used to extinguish a small fire.

Tor: 13 paces, 46%

Tor rushes toward the nearest lizard. As he brings his longsword to bear, it visibly frosts over with ice crystals. The lizard, having just slapped Indigo aside, shifts to defend itself but is not quick enough to attack again, first.
GM:
OOC: Tor: 47 + 45 + 55 + 97 = 244
Lizard: 27 + 58 + 85 = 170
Damage: 244 - 170 = 74% * 33 = 24 - 21 (soak) = 3
Body: 10 - 3 = 7: hurt

Cold: 46 + 97 = 143
Resist: 45 + 92 = 137
Damage: 143 - 137 = 6% * 13 = 1 - 2 (soak) = -1: ineffective

Tor's mighty swing is able to just penetrate the large lizards tough hide, causing minor damage.

Bolo sees the thick hide of the lizards and intends to try a new tactic, to alter the composition of the lizard's body that Sannit attacked and cause it to burn from within. (Acidify)
OOC: Reaction Time: 166 - 100 = 66.

Turtle intends to attack the leg of the same lizard Sannit did with a paw strike, hopefully knocking it down or breaking the leg to cripple it.
OOC: Reaction Time: 115.

Merin is intending to fry (with fire) the front lizard (which is the one Sheldon is targeting). Merin is going to use the Phoenix Feather to augment his fire spell.

Myth will hold back, intending to wait for one of the lizards to engage someone, and then attack it from behind once it is occupied.
As Merin begins to vibrate the way lines between him and the forward lizard, Myth, seeing Indigo go down launches in toward the rear lizard. Owing to the safety of his compatriots, Merin chooses to enflame the lizard rather than cause the air around it to explode.
GM:
OOC: Enflame:Affect / Range:
  • Confluence + Hemostasis + Symbiosis
  • Will + Discipline + Resolve
Effectiveness:
  • Essence + Confluence + Hemostasis + Symbiosis +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Will + Wisdom + Discipline + Acuity + Resolve +
  • Collegiate + Aberrative + Machination
The causes the intended target to burst into flame. This can be used to start a fire if applied to naturally flammable substances or to cause harm (loss of Body) to the intended target.

Merin: 15 paces, 61
Effectiveness: 61 + 72 = 133
Resistance: 45 + 74 = 119
Damage: 133 - 119 = 14% * 15 = 2 - 2 (soak) = 0: resisted

The air around the lizard vibrates with heat. No flames can be seen, as they are colorless, but at the right angle their shadow, or mirage, alters the image around them. The lizard, however, seems perturbed rather than hurt.
GM:
OOC: Myth: 33 + 30 + 71 = 134
Lizard: 27 + 58 + 60 = 145

Myth leaps over the swinging head of the lizard as it defends against Tor's sword swing, hoping to land on its back. Unfortunately the lizard kicks its body to the the side and the cat passes harmlessly by.

Sannit will use Way to heat his spear tip before stepping up and thrusting it at the closest lizard, aiming for any vital, unarmored parts, such as neck or armpit.
As Sannit moves forward, the tip of his spear begins to change color like metal does when it heats. As he is preparing to thrust it toward the injured lizard, the beast moves surprisingly quickly leaping at Sannit, trying to knock him down.
GM:
OOC: Attack: 59 + 61 + 86 = 206
Sannit: 46 + 31 + 65 = 142
Damage: 206 - 142 = 64% * 19 = 12
Will: 17 - 12 = 5 dazed
Motility: 19 - 12 = 7

Sannit is knocked to the side, his breath knocked from him, but he is able to maintain his footing and retaliate.

GM:
OOC: Heat: 56 + 56 = 112
Resist: 45 + 93 = 138
Attack: 46 + 52 + 64 + 82 = 244
Defend: 27 + 58 + 86 = 171
Damage: 244 - 171 = 73% * 22 = 16 - 21 (soak) = -5

Sannit's return thrust is unable to penetrate the tough hide. The lizard seems impervious to the heated tip.
