Day 122: Testing Ones Own Skills, Part 2

Vadin walks slowly to the burro who was captured and then released and slowly reaches out to touch it. He attempts to reassure the burro that it is ok, and tries to get it back with the other burros.
GM: The burro colt had begun cropping at dry grasses in typical nervous behavior of herbivorous animals. She balks slightly as Vadin approaches but does not run. Indigo smiles at his attempt, encouraging him in her peculiar alto voice.

"Speak to her. Calmly. Tell her what you want. Animals are much more sensitive to sound while people are more sensitive to sight."

Vadin voices his desires. The burro first begins to crop at the less than desirable grasses again. She then move a few steps toward him as Vadin continues to offer words of encouragement for the animal. She stops momentarily blowing at the dust on the ground, since no vegetation exists where she is standing. She then promptly trots over and tucks her head down so that Vadin can scratch her ears.

After which it is a simple matter to lead her back to the others and retie the tether.

"Very well done," Indigo says.

Day 122: Biding the Time

While waiting for Turtle to heal Sannit calls the Seekers together. "That could have gone worse for us, and I admit I let my guard down at a bad time. If we encounter another group we should select a spokesperson, different each time so we don't get too stuck in our roles, to speak for us while the others stay wary in case of treachery. What do the rest of you think?"
Sheldon nods at Sannit.
"I don't mind talking. In fact I seem to like it as much as you do."

Indigo picks up a small rock and throws it across the way at Sheldon. It might have struck him, too, but he moved to avoid it.
"Okay. Okay. All kidding aside. It is a good idea. There are enough differences in our group that one of us will likely be more suited to certain situations than the others. We will have to take each case as it presents itself."

Bolo said:
Bolo does not leave Turtle until he is well.
Indigo later brings food and water to Bolo as she tends to Turtle.

Sannit said:
Sannit will search for minerals and metals with anyone that wishes to aid him. Of course he gives special attention to the mine but he will search the general area too in case there is something hidden from the mhytres.
Once Vadin has been tended, Sheldon joins Sannit in the search.
GM:
OOC: Sannit can search for Tin, Zinc, Bloodstone, White Stone, and Yellow Stone without the aid of a conduit.
Sheldon can search for those plus Iron, Aluminum, Carbone, Burgundy Stone, Green Stone, and Orange Stone without the aid of a conduit.

The 10 remaining bodies of the fallen Mhytres interferes with the search for iron in their immediate vicinity, since they are wearing iron plates.A measurable amount of Zinc is detected but it is a depth almost straight down as to be unreachable. Within some of the debris cast aside by the Mhytre's previous digging, a rock of Aluminum is discovered. Several bricks of previously mined Carbone had been placed near the entrance to the cave. Three loose stones were discovered about plateau.
OOC: New Collections:
7 Aluminum Ingots
8 Carbone Bricks
1 White Stone
1 Yellow Stone
1 Green Stone

Moving into the cave, Sannit and Sheldon discover that the Mhytres and manufactured some lighting by placing bat guano in chiseled cups in the rock then ignite it. Several of which are still burning providing some light. The natural cave has apparently been mined for some time by the Mhytres and its depth has been considerable extended.

Sheldon says,
"I can generate better lighting than this, which will allow to see better. Even with these interesting flickering flames, I can see that this hole is rather extensive. We should see if some of the others want to joins us or at least be made aware this could take some time.

Or, we could just give it a cursory once over to see if we can detect anything. What say you
?"

Sannit strokes his beard as he considers the dark depths of the cave. "I think we should wait for Turtle. His nose saved us some trouble at the last place we stopped. Plus, Bolo won't leave him until he's up and about and I'm not leaving Bolo."

Sannit will exit the cave and search the Mhytres if no one else has done so.

Day 122: Keeping the Party Together

Sannit strokes his beard as he considers the dark depths of the cave. "I think we should wait for Turtle. His nose saved us some trouble at the last place we stopped. Plus, Bolo won't leave him until he's up and about and I'm not leaving Bolo."

Sannit will exit the cave and search the Mhytres if no one else has done so.
As they are leaving the cave, Sheldon voices his immediate observations.
"I see some crude litters for carrying rock and some light sources. What I do not see is any other gear or food preparations. I can sense some iron, but not much. There is more deeper, inaccessible.

It looks like the Mhytres have been working here a while. They are taking chunks of rock at random then moving outside to see if anything worthwhile is in them. They must not be able to sense the ore like we can or like we have been told other Mhytres can.

There is no camping gear on that flat area either. The Mhytres must have been encamped somewhere else. Maybe on top of the ridge where there is a better view
?"

Indigo comforts the pack animals, making a point of touching each one. She then send them back down the path a little ways where they is better grazing. Afterward, she walks over to where Bolo is knelt over Turtle. She touches Bolo on the should then kneels down beside her placing a hand on the resting bear.
"Poor, Turtle, such a brave bear. Let me see if I can use some of this Mend leaf to increase what you have already done for him."
GM:
OOC: Invigorate:
Range: Touch
Effectiveness:

  • Essence + Adhesion + Invocation +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Will + Wisdom + Discipline +
  • Collegiate + Academic
Indigo: 60 x 2(Mend Leaf)
Time: 10 days[11 / (6 + 132(San-Bolo) + 120(Indigo) + 95)] = 7 hours

After Indigo's assistance, Turtle's healing time is decreased by 3 hours.

Tor gathers up the metal-augmented armor from the dead Mhytres, and piles it all in one spot. That way, our attempts at sensing metals will be more directed and easier to perform. Merin will join Sheldon in the mine, because he believes that it would be a mistake to give this place only a cursory examination; in true Amiradthan fashion, Merin is thorough and meticulous.

Merin says, "We should spend a day or two here, to really ensure that all of the resources are gathered. But we'll need to post guards, in case the Mhytres return with reinforcements."

Day 122: Gathering Spoils

Tor gathers up the metal-augmented armor from the dead Mhytres, and piles it all in one spot. That way, our attempts at sensing metals will be more directed and easier to perform.
GM: Sannit returns outside to see that Tor is already gathering the armor from the fallen Mhytres. Each one, whether male or female, is carrying a hammer a mining spike and wearing enough iron plates to facilitate a 30% coverage. The metal plates are crudely attached to leather covering. The leather is of a poor quality and not worth carrying. The metal plates can be easily removed. There is nothing else of value upon them.

Sheldon goes ahead and lights up the cave once Merin enters.
"We will not need such time. The remaining iron I am detecting is buried deeper than would make mining it worth while."
He then repeats what he had said to Sannit.

Sannit takes a moment to check on Turtle and confer with Bolo. He then returns to Sheldon and says, "Bolo will stay here with Turtle. I'll go with whoever else wants to check out the ridge for the Mhytre camp."

Sheldon said:

Merin replies, ”In that case, we should gather all of the ores that the Mhytres were able to produce, combine that with the iron plates, and load those materials onto the pack animals. As this is happening, I will draw a detailed map of this place, so that we can come back later and exploit the deeper deposits, or sell the map to someone else in town for a percentage of the lode.”

Day 122: Searching the Ridge

Indigo decides to stay with Bolo as a rear guard, just in case it becomes necessary. Sheldon joins in with the search party.
GM: Moving around the ledge to the right of the cave opening, an easier access is discovered that leads to the ridge above. No particular investigation is necessary to determine that the Mhytres had been encamped here. The place is a mess. Bedding for 12 of poorly prepared hides are spaced around the edges of a cleared space. An obvious cookfire and spit are in the center. The remains of eaten game are thrown about in disregard.

One thing missing is anything of value. There are no materials and no collectables. From the amount of refuse, it appears that the Mhytres have been here for weeks. No one would surely mine for that period of time with nothing to show for it.

From the direction the two fleeing Mhytres departed, it appears that whatever the mining team collected was being delivered to another team of transporters. This creates some possibilities for the Seekers.
  • 1) A party of miners could be returning as warned by the two escapees.
  • 2) A settlement of unknown size could lie in relative proximity in that direction.
  • 3) This mining operation has now been abandoned due to the superiority of the Seekers.
