Enseth re-evaluates the threats and let the wizard run, for now.
Rushing to the creature, he draws a javelin and throws it with a mechanical precision.

Legend
Morwin & the Red Wizard

Morwin the Tressym familiar folded his wings and crept like a cat up the last few stairs that led from the cellars into the Jester's Pride Tavern. He could smell the burnt, crushed metal that had been his familiar counterpart known as ORB3 and he did not want to meet the same fate, even if he could be summoned again after the fact. He stopped at the highest stair and peered across the room that had once been the happy Common Room of a bustling tavern.

The front door of the Jester’s Pride stood slightly ajar, and was cracked and dented. Stained-glass windows to the east of the door had many broken panes between strips of lead. The common room was in total disarray - the tiled floor was covered in a layer of splinters, shards, and bloody grime. Two corners of the room contained fireplaces, and the rough stone walls and pillars showed signs of recent violence and vandalism. Across the ceiling was a network of copper pipes. Most of the furniture was overturned and broken. On the eastern side of the room was a bar with a large set of shelves, all of which had been hacked and smashed.

From a door to the east came the Red Wizard. He had gathered travelling gear, and he crossed the room heading for the tavern's front door. Morwin watched from a safe distance, and when the wizard pushed the front door aside and began to climb the stairs that led to the street level (the tavern was quite underground), the familiar crossed the common room under tables and peered at the wizard from behind the door as the man ascended.

Angis hissed right back at the creature as its claws raked across his face. “Die, beastie!” he cried. He knew he wasn’t going to survive. But he needed to defend these youngsters from this creature. He chanted his prayers to Moradin to accept his spirit, thinking of Vesia and Baern.

But none of his axes made contact with the beast.

Legend
Angis, Titus, and Enseth vs Darkenbeast

Though only mid-afternoon, it had already been a long day. Angis was tired, injured, and his thoughts drifted to his family. These distractions proved his downfall as the beast dove on him - he managed to avoid its gnarled teeth by getting an axe in its mouth, but that prevented him from hitting with it. But then it clawed at his chest and he felt his armour tear. He meant to hit it with his other axe, but his fingers were numb and the axe fell to the ground. He found himself on his back, and from above the snarling beast that was on him, he thought he saw a friendly face smiling down at him.

Titus growled and pounced on the beast, trying to knock it off of the falling dwarf, but it kicked back at him with a clawed foot, scratching his new wolf-skin across his shoulder. Titus had seen a creature like this in an old ritual book. The details were fuzzy, but he remembered that the beast was made by a twisted ritual that transformed a natural animal into this unnatural beast of shadows. It was almost certainly the work of the Red Wizard.

A javelin hurled by Enseth clattered off of the well's stone rim. The Shield Guardian recalculated future trajectory while searching his memory banks for the monster's weakness. The ritual that created it held a flaw: The beast could not abide daylight. In its quest for maximum power, the ritual's original designers had allowed the spell to be easily broken by exposure to light.

He looked up and saw that the well's lattice-work travelled upward to a wooden ceiling, where the well (which was accessible from the work-house above) was covered by two wooden doors. He calculated that the afternoon sun would be perfectly suited to illuminate the well-room, should those doors be opened. Three methods appeared before his mind's eye - 1: Someone could run upstairs to the workhouse and open them. 2: Someone (lighter than him) could climb the wooden lattice-work and open them from here. 3: They could be blasted open.

Enseth turns his light on and shout "The creature fears light! We must open those doors."[\B]

OOC: Could he launch his grappling to blast the doors?[\ooc]

Seeing Angus fall, Titus knew he could help him. He could feel it deep inside, the power to stop death. But he couldn't do it if this creature is still on him. And he couldn't do it if he was still a wolf.

Titus growled and lunged again.

OOC: Hold on, Angus. Let's get this thing off you and then I'll cast Spare the Dying.

Could he launch his grappling to blast the doors?

I don't think the grappling hook would hit with enough force to open the doors, but it could catch, and he could try to pull them open. They open the other way, so he'd have to break them. I'd allow the attempt. But maybe Tommi or Dandin can climb up there? It would be easier, I would think.

Also: Looks like Titus is not quite used to being a Wolf yet. Poor Angis.

Tommi hears Enseth's instructions, and sees the sepentine shape above the well in front of him. He has a clear shot with his sling, but....

But.

Tommi is wearing his new boots. There's a spring in his step.

"Fuggit," he says to himself, and steps forward, towards the enemy, towards the thin wooden latticework. He sees the doors in the ceiling, which can be opened from below to let out the smoke when there's a fire. But letting out smoke would also let in the light, or the rainwater, and so he steps forward and leaps.

OOC: Tommi is going to Jump up to the doors, perhaps using the latticework if he needs the extra distance.

With a STR mod of +0, he can jump 3' vertically, which with the boots becomes 9' vertically. Plus his height (5'8", let's say), which gives a reach of 8'6", plus the 9" jump means he can reach 17' 6" at a stretch in a vertical jump.

Plus a 10' run up, that uses the 30' move.

So Move -- run and jump.
Bonus action -- Dash, move further if needed to the lattice. Possibly make a second jump from partway up the latticework (so to the lattice in the first jump, and then to the doors in the ceiling.)

That leaves an Action if needed. If the height still isn't enough, perhaps an Athletics roll can help ([roll0], or, if the lattice gives advantage, the better of that and [roll1]. If Acrobatics is needed, please just add 5 to the previous rolls.

That still leaves a free interaction, and possibly the main action, which may be enough to work the latch and open the doors? I am not sure where he'll fall, but hopefully, at least the door will be open.

Legend
Hearing Enseth's request, Tommi took a running leap. His magic boots propelled him up above Angis, Titus, and the beast, and he grabbed onto the lattice and swung himself around into the inside of the well's support structure. He bounced twice from one side to the other and reached the double doors at the top. The doors opened upward, so he pushed them open a crack with his back and slid through the gap. Now above them, he hauled them open and light poured into the well-room.

The creature tried to flee to the shadows as the light came, but Titus was there, snarling as a wolf. Suddenly, it was bathed in light and it shrieked, writhing about. A thick black smoke that smelled terribly rose from it in coils, and its flesh bubbled and shifted. Finally, an exhausted, frightened, and somewhat injured cow lay piled in a heap to the side of the well.

OOC: Fight's over.
