GM: If there is anything else you would like to do in the basement I'll give you one more day. Other than that, describe how your characters will be approaching the door at the top of the stairs. It is a simple wooden door with a lock. Lia thinks she could easily pick it (no need for a roll as you can take your time).

GM: [MENTION=6670510]wolfattack[/MENTION], just so you know, the door seems like it will take you the ground floor (not like you have any dwarves or anything who would know that, but let's just assume you are perceptive adventurers). So you might be stumbling into someone's office. You might want to prepare more than just saying "let's walk into the next room." Of course, if you are cool with that, I'll proceed. Give you guys a little while to post. I'll probably make another post in a about 6-7 hours assuming you do just that unless I see otherwise.

OOC: I imagine our usual marching order is Lia taking point 5-ish squares ahead of the others, then Kwal, then Erik, with Perton bring up the rear. She will always listen at doors, look around corners, and check for traps on doors in a building occupied by presumed hostile forces.

If the others think it's a good idea, she could use stealth and take point farther ahead.

GM: I know the file size is kind of big (1.63 MB). I think I am figuring out a few ways to make it smaller though. Future maps shouldn't be so big.
You head up the stairs to the door and listen to see what you can hear on the other side. You can hear muffled chatter, shuffling of papers, and soft foot steps. It sounds as if some sort of office is on the other side of the door. There seems to be no other way around it. You'll be causing a ruckus, but at least you have the advantage of surprise. Lining up on the stairs behind the door, you prepare to enter, weapons in hand in case of hostilities, as soon as Lia opens the door.

As the door flies open you see a large office inside of what was probably once a sanctuary. There are large paned glass windows alongside the walls which you can imagine were once decorated with various stained-glass or wired windows. Along the walls are bookcases filled with various tomes, scrolls, stationary, and writing supplies. Where pews once stood are rows of desks. Behind some of them are clerks busy copying invoices, approving plans, and pouring over marketing strategies. A few armed guards line the room; it is clear this place has good security.

Everything in the room stops after the door flings open. Some of the clerks stare at you with wide-eyed faces. One in the corner drops a book he was perusing out of surprise. The guards turn to you with a quizzical glance, then ready their weapons. "You there!" one of the sergeants shouts, "you aren't supposed to be down there! Drop your weapons immediately!"
GM: Initiative Order
24 Krawlinstar
14 Lia
/player phase 1

begin NPC phase 1
10 Guards
/NPC phase 1

begin player phase 2
08 Erik
03 Perton
+Lia and Krawlinstar
/player phase 2
etc.

For a reminder of how combat cycles/phases work, click here.

The vast majority of the clerks are human. The guards are all human. Given the current predilections of your party, I will assume you are striking to subdue rather than kill unless you tell me otherwise.

FYI, I can't see an alignment on the character sheets for anyone except Krawlinstar. If you haven't picked an alignment, I will assume you are unaligned.

OOC: When I've run games, I usually take screenshots of my maps and uploaded a png or gif.

Lia's Good-aligned; it's on the PDF of her character sheet, just not the offline CB summary I got by exporting an online CB file and opening it in the offline CB. So yes, she won't be trying to kill anyone at this time.

Also, are the desks are low enough that they do not get in the way of bow shots aimed at someone not taking cover right next to them? It's not important this round unless the guy Lia's shooting at is a minion and he goes down with her first shot, but could affect her movement later.

"Surrender without a fight? Really?" Lia says, firing a pair of arrows quickly.
[sblock=actions]minor: Hunter's Quary on the guard at O15
standard: Twin Strike at the guard at O15 (Prime Shot applies, but the +1 damage from Bow Expertise doesn't, and I thought it did when I roleld the dice)[/sblock]

GM: Doh! I usually upload a jpg of the screenshot. I'll include it now.
A pair of arrows fly in rapid succession towards the guard at the southern end of the room. One nicks him in the shoulder while the second tears a piece of flesh from his thigh. The wounds are minor, but they do anger him greatly. The rest of the guards prepare to rush your party in retribution for the attack.
GM: Krawlinstar is up.
Edit: And yes, the desks provide cover.

GM: Well you can see Lia since she was up ahead. The others are a bit down the stairs, but you could probably see Erik technically at least. It doesn't matter much since your attack felled the guard at T10.
...on to NPC phase 1.
Krawlinstar's lance of faith strikes the guard (grey4) right in the chest, bringing him to his knees.

The guard (red2) pierced by Lia's arrows lunges at her with a vengeance, bearing his mace and throwing his back into a heavy swing. However she nimbly dodges out of the way (AC 9) and avoids what would have been a hefty blow.

Meanwhile the companion (grey3) to the guard struck by Krawlinstar's divine magic lets out a battle cry and moves into a position to charge at the cleric, vowing vengeance for his fallen comrade (AC 26). Krawlinstar manages to roll with the blow (5 damage), but still it probably caused a significant bruise to his lower abdomen.

The two guards at the proper entrance to the room (grey1/grey2) cautiously advance, taking careful measure of your abilities with this first exchange (total defense).

The guard at the north side of the room (red1) advances towards the fray and charges headlong towards Krawlinstar, crying "See if you like this, you bastard!" His mace flies wide (AC 10), crashing into the desk next to him and knocking papers and ink wells all over the floor.

All of the commotion seems to have paralyzed most of the clerks with fear. They duck for cover under their desks or hide behind crates or shelves, what with projectiles flying everywhere and begin to pray that harm does not befall them.
GM: Begin player phase 2.
We'll stick with jpg format for now. Seems easiest.

Lia steps back from the guard that so rudely tried to attack her, then fires off another pair of arrows, one aimed at the newcomer to the fray, and the other at her quarry. She knocked the newcomer out of the fight with a single shot (OOC: unless I guessed wrong and the grey guys aren't minions), but she fired her second shot before she'd finished pivoting back to her first target and so hit only air with it.[sblock=actions]move: shift to U14
standard: twin strike vs grey3 (prime shot applies) and red2 (no prime shot)[/sblock]
