Do you remember when that meant you had your initials on the screen next to a score? Yeah I read about it in a history book....

Justin Lanasa has added two new videos to his Mr. Hardwire Tattoo YouTube channel over the last couple of weeks. However, it's not original content. It's just two videos that he shot with Mr Beast in 2018. Rather than post Lanasa's channel, I'll link to Mr. Beast's.

In the first, Lanasa fires a 50 cal at random stuff. You can watch him struggle to knock down a Jenga tower at ~2:20, miss some concrete in buckets at ~4:30, get dodged by a notebook at ~7:30, and finally have a giant fail at hitting the 1M Lego target at ~10:45. This guy would make a great stormtrooper:


In the second, Lanasa drives around his toy "tank" as an Uber driver on July 4th (2018). There are two important things to note here. First, it's a British vehicle. On the 4th of July. Second, at ~7:50 it gets stuck in the sand, needs to be towed out, then breaks down. I guess Uber driving is just one more career path Justin simply isn't qualified for.

Watching Justin Lanasa fail at everyday things fills my heart with wild glee, I'm sad to report. That guy cannot seem to do ANYTHING right. How did he get to be filled with so much unearned confidence?

Watching him miss an 11x8 inch notebook FOUR TIMES from less than 200 yards with a 50cal with a scope just made my heart hurt. Scopes make shots like that incredibly simple math, and the bullets are VERY LARGE, making the job even easier. How is he so damned bad at it?

That said, I know why he is like he is. Dude's confidence comes entirely from having access to cash.

Notice how only he operated the 50cal. Those other guys can aim and probably would've done a better job of it. But it's -his- Toy. Only he gets to play with it. And that was so they had to include him in the video.

Shot after shot, failure after failure, he probably came up with excuses for missing every time and none of it was a simple "Woops, I messed that one up!". I'd put money on it. If anyone asked to take a shot to try and get it right, I bet he lashed out and refused. Made up something about being the only person present licensed to handle such a big gun because of his military sniper training and his 300 confirmed kills.

For the record: ANYONE over the age of 18 in the US can buy and use a 50cal rifle. No special permits required.

They're just expensive as hell. Like $4,000+ on the low end and $12,000+ on the high end.

After a quick search... I think he went for the $9,000+ Barrett 82A1 Rifle with a Night Force scope.

Lanasa buys himself toys like this and the tank because they're splashy and impressive and it replaces the need for him to be a decent person.

Point of clarification, this isn't entirely accurate (no pun intended). Bullet size doesn't impact accuracy if you're talking about the diameter of bullet vs target size. That extra 1/8" inch diameter doesn't make it easier to hit a target. You need to know the trajectory. 200 yards is actually a decent distance for a paper-sized target. Even with a scope, until it's been sighted in by the shooter, it might not even be accurate (as we all place our cheek at different positions on the stock, making our angle looking through said scope a bit different. Minor, but could make a difference. And we really don't know at what distance the scope was zero'd* at. As much as I hate to defend Justin, if he's never fired the .50 cal before, and never zero'd it to him, it's entirely likely to miss that target of that size. Being accurate takes a lot of practice, getting the firearm zero'd to the individual shooter, and knowing ballistics.

* looking at the trajectory below, if the .50 cal was zeroed for 100 yards, then at 200 yards the bullet would hit 3 inches lower than the scope would tell you.

Ugh, guns.

My dad had the Expert Marksman medal, and clasps for Rifle, Pistol, AA Artillery, and Mortar, all of which he earned in the U.S. Army. (He served honorably for 20 years, the first four of which were in combat.) As a boy, I watched him shoot a penny dead-center at 100 paces, with a .22 rifle...no scope, and facing into the sun (my uncle lost that bet hard.) My dad wasn't a sniper; he was just field infantry.

And the thing is? My dad hated weapons. He never really cared for firearms of any kind, and vowed never to pick one up again when he left the service. He had very little use for people who loved guns, and had rather unkind things to say about their, um, endowments.

those big caliber guns are hard to shoot - people develop a flinch (in anticipation of the massive recoil) and it throws off their aim.

Of all the flaws Lanasa has, this is the one I would forgive the easiest. It's not like it's his job.

His tattoos are...nothing to brag about. Not the worst, but I wouldn't want them on this canvass. I don't know what he's good at. Convincing people what they want to hear, I guess? We know he's not a great tattooist, we know he's a horrible game designer, we know he's unscrupulous (or just incompetent) about running a business (mixing LLCs, expired LLCs, failure to pay tax, etc.), and we know he wasn't good at his job in the army (let's just say we send the screw-ups off to be drivers for battalion commanders).

Honestly, I don't care what he's good at or not. I just want him to disappear, and stop being a black mark in the OSR.
