2 weapon fighting

Which does NOT stack with TWD.

Which is why I think TWF is a con.

Everyone keeps moaning about how uber powerful it is and all that. That is BULL. You need 3 feats to be sub-par to THWF. Against a SNB, you need 3 feats to be sub-par again in terms of AC.

For that many feats, TWF SHOULD be more powerful than TWHF, not equal, and definitely NOT sub-par.

Who says TWF is uber powerful? I've never heard that. I like it for flavor reasons.

I seem to remember a FAQ saying TWF with a great sword and armor spikes was fine. That means you don't get the AC from teh shield, but you do get a lot more damage from the primary weapon (over the long sword).

I did this with a fighter NPC once and it really just came down to the fact that even with the feats, he would never attack with both weapons. The extra attack at 1D6+(1/2 STR) just wasn't worth taking the minus to both attacks.

Good flavor (if a bit munchkiny) but IMO a bit weak on mechanics.

I've always been a TWF fan. I kind of like the risk of 'yeah you can hit me easier, but i can do that much more to you' concept. It's like Russian Roulette... kinda. Take alot.. give alot.. see who goes down first

How can it be munchkiny and mechanically weak?

I think the perception of TWF being for munckins come from 2e day when it really was fairly uber, and every fighter dual-wielded bastard swords.

glass.

PrinceZane - Actually, you do far MORE damage more OFTEN if you just go THWF with a GS and save all those feats for nice things like PA. For the same AC.

Glass - Precisely the kind of mentality I am up against. "It's for munchkins!!!!" "Actually, it is weaker. Here is the maths." "Oh.... It IS weaker. But it's still for munchkins!" *gives up*

I wish people would actually THINK for themselves before passing judgement. I know we all like Albert Einstein to be right, but does he have to be right ALL the time?

I'm a fan of a weapon + spiked small shield 2 weapon combination. It works pretty well and it looks cool? :D Just take Improved Shield Bash feat.

If it's just 'raw power', 2 handed weapon, armour spikes and an animated shield is definitely the way to go. I feel dirty just thinking about it. :)

Extra damage dice are your friends for 2 weapon fighting. I'd think your frost and shock combination is great, although lawful/axiomatic and/or holy might be better later on?

As a ranger, your favoured enemy bonus to damage will be very useful for this character, probably worth taking some considerable time to choose those?

The overpowering strength of TWF, in my experience, is when you can factor in a few sneak attack dice. A rogue TW fighter (finessing shortswords, e.g.) outpowers a ranger any day.

Not if he's an archer ranger shooting from a distance... ;)
