(OOC) The Dog Days of Doom

Hey @TaranTheWanderer,

So I’m hesitating between fiendish vigor and mask of many faces as my second invocation (the first being misty visions - allowing casting silent image without a slot, so once per turn).

Fiendish vigor is strong, but boring (12 thp/rnd is potent at our levels), but I’m thinking mask of many faces could be a lot of fun. Metagaming a bit, I’m thinking that perhaps zombies wouldn’t attack one of their own, even if he doesn’t seem to be attacking the living ;-)
Decisions decisions…
Cheers,

It's not 12 THP per round. It's 12 THP whenever you use your Action to get 12 THP.

Yeah, that’s what meant.
I figured you knew how it worked, I just think that you underplayed the very important part. You can gain a lot of HP with it, sure, but you won't be doing much else. I've mostly seen it used between combats, or when a PC is in very dire straits. It's good (in that you can start every combat with 12 THP, and you can "waste" your turn when pressed, to try to stay up) but it's not like that ridiculous cleric, or anything.

I agree, but level 1 is when it’s bonkers since it’s so much tho compared to baseline, and still quite significant at level 3 and 3. It will loose its oomph over the levels. Regardless, it not fun! So very much going to take mask of many faces unless @TaranTheWanderer tells me he’ll drop a piano on my character because he hates the idea ;-)

Hey @TaranTheWanderer , I was levelling up Stratus and two questions occurred to me:

1) Is he going to be able to find a new shield? Because it might influence my choice of Fighting Style.
2) Ditto for Holy Symbol. It occurs to me that he can't cast spells with an M component now.

You technically didn't say that his shield would be destroyed, but as his Holy Symbol was an Emblem on his Shield, I thought that it would be more dramatic for his shield to break in two.

But I think I was trusting that I'd be able to grab another relatively quickly!

Find a shield in town and some paint and voila! Spells all around. But yeah, that was a big reason I decided to forgo that for Deirdre. Figured it might be tough to find a replacement holy symbol for an elven deity...

This is a one shot and you are going to be dealing with a lot of undead. I’m not sure pretending to be a zombie will be useful in many situations. I’m not sure how they sense the living, but my feeling is it will be of limited use. I think that once you get close, they may sense you. I could make some kind of perception check….

Give it a go and if it doesn’t work, you can swap it out at a short rest.

I prefer to use anvils

Looks like by RAW (not that I care much for RAW, but it serves as a baseline) it will take 5gp, 4 hours, and finding someone proficient with Painter's Tools. Not quite as easy as you suggest!

So, I thought the breaking shield thing was cool and that’s why I gave you inspiration because it would be a complication. If you want to spend your inspiration to declare you find another shield or holy symbol or something (basically, tell me a story how you find a new one - maybe one is hanging over the mantel of the tavern!!!), then go ahead. Or, you can keep the inspiration for when you need it. I’ll provide an opportunity to get a new one but I think it should provide a bit of a complication first, otherwise it’s not nearly as cool!

I wanted avoiding the damage and fear to be a trade-off but not a permanent disadvantage.

Yeah, sure. I'll live with it until you feel like handing something out!
