Brook is quickly and instinctively able to negate the venom from within Jay. The two of them together are able to accelerate his natural recovery from days to hours. During the time necessary to wait for Jay, the others are able to determine that the fangs from the spiders can augment the impetus for the physical function and intellectual cognizance of any party member wishing to carry a pair (Cohesion +2).

The Kozzogs of Vit Spira welcome the youths as before and the family of Falcon takes them in for the night. Conversations during the stay are typical for a familial visit, for nothing of significance has occurred or needs to be investigated. The Kozzogs have had no recent encounters with cannibals or headhunters but understand the significance of finding some near the southern Maldrog village. They thank the youths for the warning.

Everyone keeps a pair of the spider fangs. The youths depart the following morning at first light, heading for Bergbaulager. Despite a desire to reach Ceannbhrat Buaircineach, Ceo does not press the others for urgency. She is content to make the usual daily stops and investigate inland.

It takes almost six days of sail time to reach Bergbaulager from Vit Spira. At this time of the Cycle, it is fortunate that the small catamaran rides high and needs little wind to take advantage and generate movement. The entire trip is covered in 11 days with a day spent exploring inland at each evening’s stop. The weather is about as warm as it will get on the Lunaedriac and the youths enjoy the warmth and the Daylight, able to spend some time in the water, staying in the shallows. The lake is so deep that the water never truly warms.

Jade, who is not particularly suited to prospecting, maintains camp, sets snares, and manages the fishtrap, being productive at providing food. Parakeet is, like Jade, is more suited to finding animals or people and separates from the other three to hunt for larger game, especially since Ceo offers her the simple bow and ularin arrows. Parakeet does not find any larger game for food, but she is able to collect a total of 11 large beetle carapaces over the course of the entire trip.

Brook and Falcon find an abundance of itchweed, but neither is particularly keen on attempting to make use of any of it. Additionally, they are able to collect 6 measures of flower petals known as Tranquility. Jay finds 6 pieces of Coal and several chunks of rock containing Magnesium. Using Jade’s hammer, the rocks are found to hold a total of 36 individual ingots.

Arriving at the main Maldrog village is always a festive affair. The parents of Jade invite all of the youths to stay with them and host a feast. There is also always music and dancing.

During the course of the stay, Jei offers the magnesium as a gift for his appreciation of their hospitality. He knew they would object. “I would not insult you as to attempt to buy your hospitality that you offer freely. This is a gesture of appreciation. You are better suited to trade in metals because they become too heavy in bulk to carry on our boat, anyway.”

Liking the gesture and following suit, Ceo shares the tranquility and offers to make tea, especially for the older family members. “We hope to eventually facilitate the trade of medicinal herbs and flowers, but as yet we are not experienced enough to find sufficient quantities so I would like to share what we currently have.”

Having arrived in the afternoon, the party spends the next day with the Maldrogs then departs the following morning for Marmeren Heavel.

It takes just under three days to sail from Bergbaulager to Marmeren Heavel. An extra two days are spent exploring the mountains at the two intermediary stops. As is typical for the season of the Cycle, the weather is very calm and rather warm. At lower elevations it would be considered hot, but the height and the water temper the heat. Jade continues to supply the party with fresh meat, mostly fish from the trap, while the others look for items of monetary value.

Brook and Falcon each collect three measures of Tranquility flowers. While it is far from a quantity to establish trade, sharing it for tea builds a positive reputation. Jay finds a lodestone, which is normally something of a cursed item, as people of the general populace feel compelled to carry it for no known reason. Far Jay, it can be sacrificed to enhance the generation of an electrical shock. He also finds a chunk of iron, the size of 7 individual ingots. Parakeet still does not locate any larger game while hunting but collects 6 more large beetle carapaces.

Jei had become curious about the process used to manufacture alloys, so he spoke with the Orngaddrins, as best he could, about metallurgy, discussing the properties of the few ingots that he carried. The party accommodates Jei on this venture, agreeing that it is some beneficial knowledge to have. Having nothing else to offer or inquire from the villagers, the party departs at first light the next day, heading for the home port of Ceo.

Using Maldrog to communicate, because it is the most familiar language among the party in which the Orngaddrins can also speak, the locals are pleased by the expression of interest in metallurgy and show Jay all that they can, more than he can currently follow. The greatest benefit at this juncture is the knowledge that far more ores exist than anyone in the party knew, even Jade.

It normally takes five full days of sailing plus an extra three hours to reach Ceannbhrat Buaircineach, the Spiofthests village, from Marmeren Heavel, even considering passing across the bay that tapers into the Violent River between them without getting close to the head of that river. As is the usual pattern, an extra day is spent exploring inland at each evening’s stop. Jade has become accustomed to maintaining the camp and monitoring her snares and the fishtrap while the others explore. She is also either getting better at preparing the food or the others are simply becoming more appreciative of it. The weather during the time is pleasantly hot, but the winds are slight and variable, making sailing laborious and costing an extra two days just on the water.

On the first day inland, the youths notice a man-made structure that had not been noticed before when exploring this area. It appears to be a stone tower or spire, but the climb to reach it is something that looks rather difficult and time consuming. This is something to note and return to, at a later date. During the excursions, Brook and Falcon are able to collect 14 measures of Tranquility. Though he was really hoping for something better, especially after his time with the Orngaddrins, Jay collects seven more lodestones and a total of 49 ingots of iron. The slight increase in locating iron is a pleasing improvement.

Parakeet fares considerably better during her hunting forays. Over the course of the seven days she takes three viscachas, which are very large chinchillas and good to eat, collects four lacquered beetle carapaces, and takes two small goats. In addition to their excellent meat, the goats provide some light leather, approximately a coverage of 60%. As could be expected, the Spiofthests are elated to see the youths and their proficiency in the use of the catamaran that they had built. There is to be a feast with music and dancing. The music is quite different from that of the Maldrogs, who use percussion instruments. The Spiofthests play various flutes and panpipes. Their music is quieter and calming, their dances slow and elegant.

At one point Jei expresses, “After Kio finishes with her business with her people, I think that we should return to Bird Island and investigate those tombs that originally found. Tori was not with us at that time, so this will be new for her. I think that there has to be some reason for those bodies to be entombed the way that they were. It is said that a vast amount of knowledge from the Yahdram was lost in The Sundering.”

Tori looks at Jei before being dragged away with Ceo. “Tomb, as in buried corpses? That is so strange. Why would anyone want to preserve a body once the spirit is gone?”

Jade agrees. “That seems as good of a plan as any. If we cannot discover anything new, perhaps we can go back to that spire between here and Heavel. I think we could make that climb.”

Falk, as usual, had nothing verbal to add and simply waited on the next course of action.

The personal business concluded, everyone returns to the catamaran the following morning, at first light. A cousin of Brook’s meets the party at the mooring, before they can embark. He is, of course, almost identical to Brook in coloration, though a bit taller, with vibrant red hair. He wished to join the expedition and stared unabashedly at Jade the entire time he spoke in Maldrog, giving his qualifications. He has no intention of taking “no” for an answer.

Futilely attempting to resist the request, the young sailors relent, and River Birch, or Beithe Abhainn in Spiofthest, help push the vessel from shore before climbing aboard. It takes almost three full days to sail from Ceannbhrat Buaircineach to Bird Island. The youth take inland excursions at the two previous stops.
Brook, Falcon, and River each discover two measures of Tranquility and two measures of Stimulation. Jay discovers two chunks of coal, two Ruddystones, two bricks of Magnesium, yielding a total of 13 ingots, and two ingots of Aluminum. Parakeet manages to collect the carapaces of two lacquered beetles, one viscacha, and one harvester. Jade collects fish, tiny game, and prepares the meals.

Already being familiar with Bird Island, the youth make sure the boat is very secure before abandoning it to travel to the center of the island. The stone obelisk was easy to locate once again and the stone blocks upon the ground were still mostly uncovered from where the youths had cleared them before, indicating that nothing had been disturbed by any other people.

Everything that was previously learned is explained to Abe and Tori, and the two are given time to touch the obelisk and trace the runes for themselves. Moving the block where Kio and entered the tomb previously, she and Tori are lowered into the opening to see if anything new can be learned. Having no knowledge of such things, no one has any idea what to expect or what else might be discovered.
