Heroes...Season 1--9/25/06 Eps#1

I liked it, but I was surprised they got to the powers so quickly. I was expecting more of a "slow build" of weirdness before some of these characters finally come into their own. Nevertheless, it seems to have worked out OK - I'm definitely interested, and I want to see more. Especially the telepathic cop - I thought he was going to be in the first episode, and I was disappointed when he never showed.

I also thought the tone seemed a little uneven. Thus far, most of the characters seem to have a chance to be somewhat noble. Everyone, in fact, except for my-reflection-is-a-sadistic-and-vengeful-killer-girl. I gotta say, I'm not sure how they're going to play her as a "hero."

Question: Cheerleader's dad was in a taxi in New York, but then a scene or two later, he's home in Texas. And we know that both events took place in the same day, because of the eclipse. So does this mean that the dad has a power to quickly get from NY to TX? Or was this just sloppy editing?
I think it's sloppy editing, but time may prove me wrong. My impression thus far is that all of our Heroes are from the same generation - and I get the idea that they're probably all the products of some kind of genetic engineering (at least that's what the "who are my real parents?" exchange suggests). Scary secret agent Dad seems to be part of the previous, non-powered generation, hence the guess that it's just a bad cut.

It was rushed, and they established a few things but we haven't even been introduced to everyone yet. Tonight we got what felt like 5 seperate stories with not a lot bringing them together yet.

They, unfortunately, have theproblem of being a genre show on Big Network TV - if they go to slow, they won't get past the third episode before gettign cancelled. Go too fast, and those who are willing to wait are unsatisfied...

I am drawn to the show, and will watch again. I fear, though, that it won't get more than a few episodes, as usual... *sigh*

Meanwhile, I give you (a portion of) Ookla the Mok's "My Secret Origin"...

Ookla the Mok said:
There was a boy who knew
he could be anything that he wanted to.
Everybody told him he had a singular destiny.
Everybody said he'd go far--
everybody said he'd be a star.
They said he could be anything he wanted to be--
then he turned into me.
Now it seems increasingly unlikely
that I'm gonna grow up to be Luke Skywalker--
not gonna be Indiana Jones.
And after all this time
it's probably not gonna turn out
that I'm the super-powered heir
to a world that isn't there anymore.
But somebody told me I was special.
Somebody told me that I could be
anything I wanted to be.
How could they have known the dreams I had
were not the dreams they had for me?
They said I could be what I wanted--
they had no idea what I wanted.
And I don't mean to seem ungrateful
for all their encouragement and praise.
I just meant to say that I don't intend
to stay and spend
another wasted year, cause at the end
I bet I'd still be sitting here
wasting time and waiting.
I'm waiting for my Lady of the Lake
to come and crown me king.
I'm waiting for my rocket to land
so I can get my power ring.
I'm waiting for my radioactive meteorite to fall.
I'm waiting but I ain't got no meteorite at all.
I'm waiting for my story to begin.
I'm waiting for my... I'm not done.

I really liked it, but I agree that there wasn't a lot of character building. However, like Umbran said, move too slowly and you get cancelled.
The asian guy was kicking my ass with all of his Star Trek and comic book references. I'll definately watch it again...already got it TIVO'd. :)

The timeline is goofy, but not because of that.

BBG tells Dr. Suresh he's going to JFK. Assume that's afternoon, maybe 1pm. A flight from JFK to Houston is about three and a half hours. Assume travel time, he'd be home around 8pm tops.

What IS goofy is how the mother says that their father is coming home early. She says it's early, but then says he's getting home that night, instead of today. Maybe I heard it wrong, but it was weird.

I'm disappointed they didn't show the artist's hand... it was another example of how they don't have control over their powers. In fact, the way it was cut didn't even show that he cut it off. I'm also surprised the hand-in-garbage disposal scene got in... albeit sans dog chewing on finger, that I could tell.

The teaser for upcoming episodes really got me excited, I must say. Between this and Studio 60 on the same night, Monday is definitely my fav.

[EDIT] In the pic above, who is the guy next to Hiro? He's the only one I don't recognize.

That is another character that have not been introduced yet. His power is phasing and is a convict.

Ok, so I likely butchered the line, but my wife and I caught the reference anyway. We're hooked. Now here's to hoping they don't do like they did with Lost...one or two new episodes, then re-runs, then another new one, etc.
No they will only do that the second season. They use the first to hook you in. ;)

I beleive, when he was in the taxi he asked to be taken to the airport. And I don't recall any reference to the eclipse from the family in TX. But it would be poor editing either way, because the story would be jumping back and forth over a few days time.

Did they mention that in the show? I completly missed that.
