RPG Crowdfunding News - Mythology Manual, Nibiru, The Wanderer's Legacy, La Dama Nera, and more

Let’s look at some of the last RPG Kickstarters ending in 2018 and the first that end in 2019 (those ending between December 28th, 2018 through January 3rd, 2019).

Failbetter Games’ Skyfarer: The RPG, a Review

In September 2018, Failbetter Games unleashed Skyfarer, a pen-and-paper RPG tie-in to Sunless Skies, their steampunk literary RPG for Mac, PC, and Linux. Free exclusively through TabletopGaming.co.uk, this promotional tool hypes their video game franchise by bringing it to the world of tabletop. This is their first attempt to translate their universe into a new style of game, so let’s review the results of this micro RPG simulation of their gaming world.

RPG Crowdfunding News 125 – Torg Eternity – The Nile Empire, The Adventurer’s Prayer, Vindeon, Tegel

For this week’s article, I’m sharing RPG Kickstarters that end between December 21st, 2018 and December 27th, 2018, the last full week of the year. Among them are several systems, a number of D&D 5e adventures, and even a poster to consider.

RPG Crowdfunding News 124: Art of De Architecturart, Folio Quarterly, Dragon d20 Dice, Emberwind, My

This week I’m reviewing eight RPG crowdfunding projects that end between December 14th and December 20th. These include a new RPG, a major third-party Pathfinder 1e rule expansions, adventures for D&D 1e, 5e, and Pathfinder 1e, as well as dice, and a map artbook that redefines printed maps. If you need more still live Kickstarters, check out last week’s column here for campaigns ending December 9th through 13th.

Leveling Up with Travis Legge! From the Slarecian Vault to Freelancer for Onyx Path’s Scarred Lands

I met Travis Legge, one of the most prolific individuals in tabletop gaming today, when I interviewed CJ Hurtt about Glimpse the Beyond 2e (written by CJ, developed by Travis and published through his Aegis Studios). Since then I’ve been friends with Travis and seen the number of games he creates (over 300 entries on DriveThruRPG). Recently, Travis announced that, after crafting community content through Onyx Path Publishing’s Slarecian Vault, he’s achieved what many creators aim for when he was asked to freelance on an official OPP Scarred Lands product. What follows are Travis’ thoughts on what he’s done to get to where he’s at and what’s next for him.

RPG Crowdfunding News 123: TALOC: MAYAN, Become, Never Tell Me the Odds, Crystal Heart, SotDL: Occul

For my second “RPG Crowdfunding News” article on EN World, I look at games based on webcomics, movie quotes, expansions to gaming lines, and more. RPGs that run on Savage Worlds, Mutant: Year Zero, Shadow of the Demon Lord, Powered by the Apocalypse/Dungeon World, and original engines. That said, it’s difficult to cover all of the games on Kickstarter or Indiegogo, and some of them were omitted like Modern: Book of Elves, Canitaurs & Felitaurs, and How Orcus Stole Christmas!, among others. That said, all of these crowdfunding campaigns are worth reading to see what’s coming in 2019.

RPG Crowdfunding News 122: Chicago By Night, Black Iron, Thousand Arrows, Turn, Kamigakari: God Hunt

After 121 articles, Angus Abranson moved on from this column to focus on other projects, including Boardgame Guru. Taking up the reins, I have a tall order to fill, but Angus offered guidance (we co-admin the RPG Kickstarter News Facebook group) and I’m hopeful I will do his legacy honor. To kick off my first article for this Thanksgiving week (US), I’m reviewing a number of RPGs from Kickstarter that run on D&D 5e, DCC, VtM 5e, PbtA, and more. Enjoy EN World’s weekly roundup of tabletop roleplaying game crowdfunding campaigns and have a good holiday!

Interview and Exclusive Lamp's Light Sanitarium: A Horror Sourcebook for 5th Ed. with Matt Corley

Is your gaming table ready for Victorian horror using Dungeons & Dragons 5e rules crafted by one of Kobold Press’ designers? Matt Corley takes the time to discuss his first Kickstarter (but not his first game), Lamp’s Light Sanitarium. As well, he shares an exciting exclusive preview to his dark setting and adventure.

D&D Endless Quests… in Target, B&N, Amazon, and More!

Dungeons & Dragons Endless Quest gamebooks are back in the wild! The series, which ran in the mid-80s and again in the mid-90s, returned with new books written by Matt Forbeck released by Penguin Random House and Candlewick Entertainment through a deal with Wizards of the Coast.

RPG Jobs Roundup: io9, AAW, and Wizards of the Coast

Looking for a gaming-related fulltime job? Interested in a part-time, freelance position? Do you have a short story you’d like to be paid to write? In this RPG jobs roundup, there are opportunities to share your work while being paid for, to raise your profile as a creator, game organizer, as an author, or a combination. These are not all of the gaming jobs available, and they may close at any time, but these give an idea of what employment awaits you.

Storytellers Vault Roundup: Savannah by Night Storyteller’s & Player’s Guide; Humble Bundle

For my second Storytellers Vault Roundup, I'm doing a Vampire: The Masquerade review and looking at a Humble Bundle that offers a Storytellers Vault discount.

Exclusive Preview and Interview - Age of Myth for 5e with Brett Peterson and Karen Swan

Want to roleplay in the ancient world of the Eastern Mediterranean using Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition? Karen Swan and Brett Peterson have a game up on Kickstarter, Age of Myth: Ancient World Supplement for 5th Edition, which lets you “Roleplay with the Gods of Olympus!” I was intrigued and pleased when Karen and Brett took some time to talk to me about the book they’re producing and share an exclusive preview from it.

Svilland: A 5E D&D Norse Mythology Setting from Turkey

When Umut Comak of the Dream Realm Storytellers first contacted me it was to offer a press release about Svilland, their Norse 5e setting. The second time, a sneak peek of it. The third was to discuss an interview. With the Kickstarter for Svilland ending tomorrow*, we were able to talk with Umut about the project and the gaming scene in Turkey.

Gaming at the Kids’ Table with Hero Kids Fantasy Premium Adventure - Reign of the Dragon

In 2017, I reviewed the core Hero Kids ruleset and found a game that wins the kids’ gaming table and works for all those that are young at heart. Justin Halliday, Hero Kids’ creator, released a long adventure (at least for the target audience), Hero Kids - Fantasy Premium Adventure - Reign of the Dragon. What does this 57-page book include?

Storytellers Vault Roundup – News and Bloodlinebook: Limonae

The Storytellers Vault Roundup passed from David Larkins (sirlarkins’) capable hands to mine and I’ll do my best to fill-in starting with some Storytellers Vault news then crafting a review of Bloodlinebook: Limonae.

RPG Jobs Roundup: Tor.com, Harebrained Schemes, and Wizards of the Coast

To make our dreams come true, sometimes the dream must be open to interpretation. Do you want a job in tabletop gaming? Is the “tabletop” portion an absolute? There are good jobs that are important parts of the gaming industry but are not directly tabletop gaming jobs. In this RPG jobs roundup, Mike Tresca and I curated several opportunities that exist in the periphery of the traditional tabletop gaming industry. All of that said, be aware that these job openings may close without warning. They will be filled; the only question is will it be by you?
