D&D 5E (2014) [OOC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

I have no interest in arguing rules with DMs. DMs choose rules; players choose DMs. I just don't like feeling like I'm getting one past the DM by keeping my mouth shut about something they might have forgotten or just didn't realize.

Rules-lawyering was not my intent at all, so my apologies if it came off that way. More of a quick, "Hey, did you mean for us to get away with this? Yeah? Cool. No? Also cool." The button-text was just a joke. (When Aesh and JustinCase weighed in I was like oh man, did I just write a totally d*ckish post without meaning to?!?) We've been at this for over a year and this was the first issue worth mentioning, so obviously Aesh is correct that you know what you're doing. This won't be happening often.

This one felt worth mentioning because a big part of what I gave up when I chose dex over strength was the ability to grapple/shove with high success rates. Between this rule and the fact that I pretty much know I can rage every fight now (3 rages/day + PbP resulting in fewer combats between rests), it feels like a lot of that has been restored. It's often going to mean getting 4 chances/round instead of 2. It let me get a hold of Turvy and might've stopped that Rocktopus from ever getting down the ravine. Enemies could disengage, but then they can't dash away. And yes, I have to have a free hand, but if there's someone I want to grapple, I typically only pull one weapon anyway. So I was happy to take this...but only if you knew it wasn't necessary.

I definitely appreciate it. You weren't out of line at all. Feel free to speak up any time I get something wrong or if a ruling is confusing.

But then something happened. She sensed a betrayal

Nothing to be sorry for.

I'm trying to find a way out of fighting (because I know survival odds are a joke), but Surana honestly believes what she just said. She has no reason to suspect any of her companions, and every reason to believe Ploop would double-cross us. Expecting her to not only make peace with him but *still go fight his battle* is just...ugh. She's pretty proud to swing a sword for some guy who (she believes) just murdered her friend in front of her.

Ez has said he won't fight; Orsik seems like he might. If she can go out fighting proudly with an honorable dwarf fighting at her side, that might be enough for her. Going to wait and see what, if anything, our rogue has to say to everyone. ;)

One of my favorite things about D&D as a DM is setting up a scenario and having it go in a completely different direction than the way I thought it would go. It's like reading a book and the author throwing in a twist you didn't expect.

This would be one of those times.
