D&D General The Crab Bucket Fallacy

They force everyone else to not participate. Got it.

Player one has a 15% greater chance of persuading = everyone else shutup during the RP session.

It was closer to 35 or 55%. Untrained ten charisma vs +7 with potentially enhance ability.

Several blown rolls lead to his erm retirement as party face.

No one's saying don't roleplay but maybe not as party face/point man role. He coukd cobtribe via roleplaying (treat as help action to grant advantage).

Wiener, obviously.
Oscar Meyer or Ballpark?
I recommend the Wienerschnitzel.

"Wiener" is another amusing case of German words entering the English language with new meanings as a result of their association with foods. A "Wiener" means a "person/thing from Vienna," with "Wien" (veen) being the German name for the city.

It's basically the same as "Hamburger," which means in German "a person/thing from Hamburg," and "Burger" also being the German word for a "citizen." So walking around Hamburg sometimes is fairly amusing because of how often "Hamburger" is used as an adjective for non-food related things: e.g., "Hamburger Bank," "Hamburger Kindergarten," "Hamburger Schule/School," "Hamburger Likor," etc.

Wait, so in order to roleplay, a player needs to pick a class that is charisma based?

That sounds ridiculous.

Party face is a specific role.Maybe don't expect to be successful as the party's tank* if you dump con and have poor ac too?

*Picked because I've seen someone try just that in a group that had a plate clad fighter and cleric in the party, they expected the gm to solve their dpr control build's shortcomings as a tank and complained regularly when I refused to make common the very specific magic items they wanted.... I've also seen a wizard say "I should not be on watch", get voluntold with some nonsense about taking turns and immediately proceed to roll a total of zero on his check... shockingly the party thought better about who keeps watching going forward

This conversation is really making me want to create a low-charisma character with no social skills. Who talks. A lot.
Been there, done that. Occasionally kept quiet. Sometimes not of my own free will.

But since we're getting all "must follow the rules" here, the DMG states: "Any character who has actively participated in the conversation can make the check." It's not a big deal. Want to be the party face? You have to contribute. Doesn't stop anyone else from chipping in.

Again, the low AC characters still get attacked. They still get hit. The reason is... (wait for it)

Because the situation is dynamic. The goblins that were hiding in the wagon that the wizard was checking out jumped out. Same with the exploration pillar, because I assume not everyone just stands there in the field while the wizard looks at the wagon's wheels. The fighter might be looking for tracks. The ranger might be in the grass staring out into the field. The bard might be pissing behind the tree. Whatever they do, they do it at the same time unless they say they don't. Then the DM might have some roll, and some might not. The fighter might make a nature or investigation check. The ranger might make a perception. The bard no check. The wizard might just interact with the scene. Hence, a dynamic scene. Not a static scene.

The same is true for the social pillar. They all interact (hopefully), and then the DM determines who, if anyone, needs to roll.
