I write a lot about new RPGs including reviews of the most recent releases. But what about that RPG a GM sticks with in a campaign lasting months or even years? Even though I play every other week consistently and have done so for over two decades I’ve only had a couple of campaigns that lasted over a year. What would it take to have a favorite campaign last for over a year and is it worth...
Dungeons & Dragons has reached the point where you can now have Hellboy fight ringwraiths using one RPG system and actually arrive at an empirical answer of who would actually win. My inner child rejoices. And on top of that is more mundane rule support of new class options, magic items, spells, monsters, and more. Plus fey adventures and support and epic level play for all those campaigns out...
This week I share RPG crowdfunding projects that end between April 25th and May 11th. The first two million-dollar campaigns of April, an offer coming from the GameChangers website, a pair of The Fantasy Trip adventures, two books for MÖRK BORG, and an homage to the Super Mario Brothers, this sampling has a variety of options to share.
A bit of alchemy has gone awry on EN5ider—and aggressive, angry experimental subjects are running amok!
This brand spanking new full adventure on EN5ider delves into a pyramid of deadly traps—with time of the essence!
Dungeons & Dragons has plenty of support this week. Adventures, maps, and miniatures painted or primed including an ice troll and snow golems to celebrate snow in April in the USA. My current favorite RPG, The One Ring 2nd Edition, gets two types of dice (one for Gandalf and one for Sauron) with special symbols on some faces, a screen, and a magical elven city with new rule options. There are...
This week’s list of RPG crowdfunding projects end between April 14th and May 10th. In this sampling of what’s available, I’ve included several 5e options, a 1e option, some sci-fi including cyberpunk, a duet, a solo option, and even a graphic novel.
How do flawed characters think about life-and-death decisions and deal with the consequences? Theses questions can lead to better roleplaying. I have some ideas to consider.
“When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain he wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer.” A fitting subject for this final post in the Mythological Figures column.
Today's entry on EN5ider is a classic and great for GMs eager for a fun one-shot or quick sidequest: attacking undead hordes!
This week I share RPG crowdfunding projects that end between April 11th and the 23rd. This article is a sampling of the projects that are out there, though it is a 5e heavy week. There are a lot of fun 5e projects, but also some interesting original systems as well as a big Praxis System offering.
A starter set is here for one of my favorite RPGs, The One Ring. Dungeons & Dragons and adjacent RPGs have new adventures and new monsters. Call of Cthulhu has chaotic Keeper tips and advice. G.I. JOE is now in RPG form and they remain real American heroes. Finally, a new world set on Earth with a history quite different from our own debuts with a core rulebook complete with setting. This is a...
Doublets, cloaks, tabards, hats, hairpins—today's issue of EN5ider is tailored to fit right into your party's next stop in town!
We’ve got a riddle for this final Epic Monsters post: what creature already has two different entries in the core rules but is getting a third one here today?
Paizo is set to release one of its adventure paths--The Abomination Vaults--for D&D 5E in November. The AP will be compiled as a hardcover and retail for $59.99. There will also be a Pathfinder 2E version of the hardcover. The 3-part adventure path was originally released for Pathfinder 2E in early 2021, and is a big dungeon crawl adventure. When the mysterious Gauntlight, an eerie...
This week, I talk about a sampling of RPG crowdfunding projects ending between April 7th through the 24th. This is not an exhaustive list of the available RPG crowdfunding projects, but it gives an idea of what’s available. That said, I share four D&D 5e projects, one Mörk Borg book, a complete RPG for a dollar, and two projects that draw from the concepts of Jane Austen.
