GREYHAWK CY963 GOLDEN ERA CAMPAIGN: HEROES OF DYVERS: CHAPTER 4

After Lathir signals us to stop and we now hear the grunts of eating by the trolls and the guttural language of the others, Tam-Tam's compulsiveness kicks in. He looks to Thallok and says:

"Wait with me back here for a moment, Red."

He then gets the attention of the others (except Lathir, who may be too far away) and whispers to them an idea he has:

"What say we make ourselves look like prisoners and have Thallok lead us into the midst of these creatures for an ambush attack? Of course, the Trolls need to go first, unless no one has a fire weapon; for if theat's the case, then it's all "come what may" --- a real free-for-all. Anyways, I think we can take them."

He then gives his famous (at least back in his Jeweler days) and genuinely winning smile to the party.

Lathir Formulates a Plan

"What say we make ourselves look like prisoners and have Thallok lead us into the midst of these creatures for an ambush attack? Of course, the Trolls need to go first, unless no one has a fire weapon; for if theat's the case, then it's all "come what may" --- a real free-for-all. Anyways, I think we can take them."
Lathir waves the others back some and eases backward himself.
"You and I are on the same wavelength on this one, little man. I am sure one of you is clever enough with rope to make you all look the part of prisoners."

Lathir removes his hat, pushes his wet hair away from his face, and smiles. His body appears leaner, more muscular than a moment before.
"As for me, I will need a moment to prepare. I plan to call lightning from the sky. With this weather, the bolts will be almost twice as powerful as what I could normally call."

Lathir readjust his hat on his head which suddenly seems to be a headband binding back some greasy brown hair instead of his normal light ginger whisps. His skin looks sallow then positively greenish, having more bulk than just a moment ago. His clothing does not change. Had Lathir not been standing right before the group before the change was affected, everyone would affirm that an orc shaman had supplanted him.

Lathir looks at Thallok.
"What do you say, Red? Are you ready to go straight at them?"

OOC: Lathir prepares Call Lightning.

Tam-Tam says: "I can tie slip knots that can be easily removed. They're also real simple to do. Unfortunately, my silk rope will be too conspicuous to be used. Anyone have some hemp rope?"

If everyone agrees to the plan...the Skill check looks good.

Sylvar levels his Naginata at Tam then looks at Thallok...we are going to allow this short man to tie us up like pigs to slaughter? We don't even know him...he's taken no oaths. As far as we know he has joined us opportunistically. He may be using us to curry favor. I don't trust him. We should think up a new plan. I have been taken captive once in my life already...it will not happen again.

Vale -

Sylvar levels his Naginata at Tam then looks at Thallok...we are going to allow this short man to tie us up like pigs to slaughter? We don't even know him...he's taken no oaths. As far as we know he has joined us opportunistically. He may be using us to curry favor. I don't trust him. We should think up a new plan. I have been taken captive once in my life already...it will not happen again.

~ We are much too eager to jump into this battle. ~

Vale puts his hand on the elf's shoulder. "Easy there Elf. I'm fairly sure this little one is alright. We might need this little one. I think he's biting off more than he can chew, but nevertheless, he's one of us, not them." Vale motions toward the collection of monsters around the bend.

"Lathir, respectfully, if we are going to go after these monsters, we need a better plan than chewing them up with lightning and charging in."

"I can provide divine assistance to all of your attacks, as well as bless a weapon before we wade into close combat. However, I do not have much frontal attack prowess. Dewydd, your abilities will be crucial here. We are outnumbered better than 2-1. Thinning this herd will be a challenge. "

Vale thinks that the party is woefully outgunned, but he is here, and these people are his comrades. They party has to go through the monsters or around them. He prefers through them.

"Elf, I don't care for this idea either, but we are here. We aren't completely sure where 'here' is. But one thing is for certain; those baddies around the corner there will flay us open and eat our eyeballs. And I really don't like trolls. Awful breath. But it will be a battle though. Let's be about it."

Lathir/ Orc shaman looks at the group and nods.
"I am not seeing any option for flanking. I fully intend to walk right into that foray. We could do a bait and flee tactic. I will walk on up by myself, looking like this, call a bolt of lightning onto a troll and have them come charging back into the waiting party. One way or another, I want to balance the scales here for this slaughter.

By the way, I also still have a flame strike available to me and some flasks of oil
."

Sylvar looks at Vale, back at Thallok and finally at Tam, and lowers his Naginata...Very well, if this is the best we can do I will go along.... Sylvar looks intently in Tam's eyes. If you betray us or leave us to be slaughtered by these foul beasts I will get my vengeance, whether in this life or the next...Odin the All Father is my witness...there will be no rest for you. Sylvar looks at the group. I have a few spells I can use to help us. It would have been better if we could have rested, however, things being what they are I can sing a song that might make them more susceptible to our ruse.

"With their numbers, I don't think I can safely 'swing for the fences.' However, if I could get a clear path to one of those Hill Giants, I would willingly risk it." I whisper. "I can speak Giant fluently if you'd like me to listen in to them for a bit."

GM:
As per the Facebook chat thread:

The Hill Giants are laughing about how foolish these merchants were, thinking they could bribe their way past the patrol. The Hill Giant says that this area is so well-established, they should be strong enough to take Hochoch soon. Which means you guys must be somewhere in this area:

Probably in the hilly region.

If we are going to do this we should do it already. If we are discovered here it will go poorly for us. Allow me an attempt to fascinate them with a song. If all goes well I may be able to suggest that they return to camp and leave us be. At the very least I may be able to give us opportunity to catch them off guard.
