CB's The Sunless Citadel v3.5

Kiaphas Liadon Elven Cleric of Corellon Larethian

Kiaphas ponders the current situation. "I believe our best course of action at the moment is to rest. Grotz is still weak from the rat battle. I do not have the ability to help him. He must rest to regain his health. Karl is still hurt from his fall. I have only one major heal spell left that I can cast until I rest. We should try to secure that door and rest. Or, even better, return to the surface and rest up there. I have some more healing but it is minor."

And don't forget that the flying fiend is still over there … somewhere.
Grotz says nervously and scans the upper part of the cave for any signs of the creature.
We can find a spot inside the crumbled tower, luckily for us we brought a good friend with us.
He smiles and tap on his best friend … the keg

As the fivesome stands discussing options in the ruined courtyard, the gearworks in the pit give a distant creaking groan and with much boisterous cacophony, the trap door closes and resets itself. Having set off the pit trap, it looks as if someone has inlaid flagstones that match the surrounding courtyard stonework atop a simple wooden framwork trap door. Once the trap door closes, the trap is again nearly invisible. The mortar work and grout of the flooring of the trap door are a near perfect match to that of the floor.

A rat, sizeable but not of the dog-sized variety previously encountered, stops short in the courtyard's northwestern corner, near the edge of the tower wall. The light shed from Kiaphas's sunrod reveals the rat's luminescent yellow eyes in the otherwise deep dark of the keep. With the flick of a tail, the rat scurries from sight, disappearing back into the tower.

Elyan winces at the metallic scream of the resetting trap.

Then, in response to Kiaphas' suggestion, he says, "What, leave so soon? Surely the adventure has just begun."

Turning to Karl he says, "Did you not say that there is a door into the tower, here? If we do not want to rest out here - and with flying demons and giant rats I can understand why you wouldn't be keen - then let us find shelter within!"

Spotting the rat that scurried from sight into the crumbled tower, Grotz tunrs to the others
OK, let us find shelter within, let's pass the vile trap and open the door.

Kiaphas nods. "Forward then. I'll use the last of my minor healing then and save the other for an emergency." Kiaphas moves over to Karl. Twice more he offers a prayer to Corellon in elvish, further healing Karl's wounds. "That should be better."

OOC: Casting two more Cure Minor Wounds for 2 more points of healing. That should leave Kiaphus with two first level spells but only one can be use to spontaneously cast a cure spell, the other is the domain spell.

Spells: Protection from Evil* & Obscuring Mist

* Domain spell

Karl nods his thanks to the elf once more and then turns to face the door once more with a speculative grunt. Sure, the door was probably only trapped once, but. . . better safe than sorry. He looks over the gates for any more signs of danger before gently trying to push them open.

Karl carefully searches the stone door but finds nothing of note. The trap door that covers the pit appears to be a simple spring-loaded pressure plate--it drops when its weight load is met or exceeded. Judging by the goblin corpse at the bottom of the pit, the trap door is designed to fall inward even when a relatively light weight steps on it....either that, or someone threw the goblin into the pit.

Karl pushes open the iron-shod stone door to reveal the tower's inner shell. This circular area is cobbled with cracked granite, upon which sprawl four goblins, all apparently slain in combat. One goblin stands with its back against the western wall, the killing spear still skewering it and holding it upright. Three wooden doors lead off from this area. Above, a hollow tower of loose masonry reaches 30 feet, but except for a couple of crumbled ledges, the intervening floors and stairs are gone. Rats skitter in the darkness about the goblin corpses and scrabble to flee the nimbus of light shed by Kiaphas's sunrod.

Karl smiles grimly to himself as he looks around the ruins, considering the rats, and goblin corpses. This is where is companions wanted to rest for the night? Because it was so much nicer than outdoors? He shrugs to himself and takes the first step into the room. He turns to face his friends across the pit trap and spreads his hands wide to indicate the room behind him.

"Homey."

He turns back and starts walking around the room, poking in corners and toeing the goblins to make sure they weren't still breathing. When he reaches the skewered goblin, he sighs slightly. With a little grimace, he wrenches the spear free of the wall, leaving the goblin to his rest.

Kiaphas moves forward and skirts around where he knows the pit to be and carefully moves into the tower after Karl. Kiaphus heads around the edge of the tower to the left checking the walls for any signs of hidden or secret passages.
