CB's The Sunless Citadel v3.5

Despite being shoved to the side by Grotz, the kobold shuffles back over to Grotz's legs and clasps at Grotz's knees in fear. As Karl sidles up to the door in the northwest corner to listen, Meepo barks out in squealing excited Draconic, "He wake bounders! Bounders mean! Bounders poke! Careful, careful! Trap, trap!"

Karl puts an ear close to the door and listens for sounds coming from within the room beyond. Something inside shuffles and clicks once and then all is still.

Karl growls slightly, deep in his throat and strides back to the kobold. With a glare from deep within his very being he stares down the wretched creature. He pokes the kobold firmly in the chest with one finger.

"Speak sense or not at all."

Meepo shrinks down to make himself as small as possible to avoid the half-orc's wrath. With clawed paws over his head to protect himself as he ducks, the kobold winces out of Karl's way and commences quietly whining to himself. "Meepo always beat, always hit. No use, they say! Coward they say! Always last! Always scraps for Meepo!"

Elyan arcs an eyebrow at the sound of Karl's ire. "Indeed! Irritating as it is, the piteable creature warns you of a trap at the door and what he refers to as "bounders" inside the room. How many do you hear?"

Kiaphas Liadon Elven Cleric of Corellon Larethian

Intrigued by the exchange between Karl and Meepo, Kiaphas moves closer to them. "What is our plan?"

Karl turns to Elyan, whispering to avoid drawing any more attention than Meepo is already working on. However, there is no way of knowing what lies behind the door, or what a 'bounder' is.

"One? More?"

[sblock=Draconic]"Meepo, what are 'bounders'? Describe them. And how many of them are there?"[/sblock]Elyan questions the kobold, his own voice going up the octave in imitation of the yips and growls which the little creature utters. He reasons that a higher pitch may be more calming to Meepo's ears.

Meepo seems comforted at Elyan's change in pitch and quiets in response. "Two bounders, fierce! Guard clan younglings, kobold wives."

Karl may not speak Draconic, but when the kobold holds up two clawed fingers the sign language seems clear enough.

Kiaphas Liadon Elven Cleric of Corellon Larethian

Kiaphas, assuming that the group is heading through the door, draws his longsword and then nods to Karl. Then prepares for Karl to open the door.

Karl nods slowly at the kobold's gesture, awaiting further guidance from Elyan.

"Two. Two . . . ?"

He waves off Kiaphas for a moment. Who knows what a bounder is, better to not open the door to face two horrible demons. A pox upon kobolds and their damnable dog tongue. It is no wonder Elyan is the only one who understands it, he spends too much time around Rogue!
