CB's The Sunless Citadel v3.5

A thorough search of the door reveals that the door is not trapped. It is, however, locked. Happily, there's a keyhole that faces Karl's side of the door. Easy picking.

Karl glances back over his shoulder to where the elf still tends to Grotz. Scratching idly at his ear with one long dirty finger, he considers the keyhole. Letting out a slow breath, he lays his sword nearby one the floor, within easy reach, before fishing out his picks.

He begins looking over the lock, trusting everything to be in order by the time he has the door open.

Presumably the lock picking will take longer than whatever spell Kaeleen casts.[/sblock]

Kaeleen : Female Elf Cleric of Corellon Larethian 2

Kaeleen channels positive engergy into Grotz' wounds. Then she moves to Meepo and channels positive energy into the kobold.

OOC: Grotz = Cure Light Wounds (1d8+2); Meepo = 2 Cure Minor Wounds (2)

Karl sets to work methodically and quickly springs the lock on the door. By the time Karl has finished his elegant handiwork, Kaeleen has healed Grotzkoshter and moved over to Meepo.

Karl quickly returns his picks to his tool kit and stows away the whole set, checking to make sure everything is secure. He retrieves his sword and stands ready by the door, waiting for a signal of readiness from Grotz.

Healed by Kaeleen, Grotz grasps his weapon and, adjusting his grip on the haft, nods to Karl to open the door. When Karl does open the door, he is immediately met by two growling rats the size of dogs. One rat, with sour yellow eyes, has a metal cookpot in its jaws, which it drops with a loud clatter to the stone floor in favor of hissing at Karl and Grotzkoshter. The second rat, the larger of the pair with fur matted into oily spikes, releases the arm of the dead goblin over which it towers in order to charge Karl.

Grotzkoshter

Grotz steps in cautiously and say
So you two made all the noise, two big mice, now ready to be chopped.

Greataxe [1d20+9, 1d12+5, crit x3, 12 lb, two-handed, slashing], Cleave

Relieved that the noise is simply rats and not something more. . . organized. Karl quickly moves to dispatch the creatures before their disturbances bring anything else to investigate. He hugs the walls, sword held before him and he advances.

[sblock=ooc]Move one right and up to the rats.
And attack Rat1 Attack +6, 1d6+4[/sblock]

Karl crosses the brief width of the room, short sword at the ready. Expertly swinging his blade at Rat1, Karl crunches through hide, flesh, and bone to deal 7 points of damage to the rat. The beastie snarls in displeasure at the hit, just as Grotzkoshter moves to join Karl in the room. Grotz hefts his great axe and crashes the weapon's head down on top of Rat2's skull for 10 points of damage. Rat2 crumbles at Grotzkoshter's feet, it's skull split into two neatly symmetrical halves.

Kaeleen moves over to Meepo and channels a cure minor into the kobold's unconscious form. The heat of the healing smooths Meepo's breathing but does little to release the petite dragon-kin from the icy grasp clutching his heart.

The first rat hisses with spite at Karl and lunges forward to bite but misses as Karl arcs his long body out of the way at the last second. A maw of discolored yellow teeth, most of the them razor sharp, rips at Karl's breeches, tearing a hole in the fabric but otherwise leaving Karl unscathed.

Elyan moves to stand in the doorway, the better to listen to the activity. Mentally composing a song in his head but deciding for the moment that Karl and Grotzkoshter have things well in hand, the bard lets a hand down to restrain Rogue.
