Again, sure, and these things are being addressed. I mean you are essentially saying here 'I cannot stay on top of my damage optimization'. Which...yes, I get it. You want to do better at Social, but you dont want to fall off the optimization curve of the ASI?

Choices and consequences and all that.
My point is that since it was not in the base system, anyone who is focused on one aspect got powercrept if they don't stay on the optimization thredmill. Don't powergame an you can be outmelee-ed by an enemy WIZARD.

The utter shame.

I'm perfectly happy with the fighter as is, but I think this is a good point. If standard fighters don't work for you there are plenty of options. Some even published by the owner of this forum.

Well, I think that the other elephant in the room is that the most popular class in actual play is always Fighter first.

So ... when people play the game, they still play fighters. Now, of course there will be those that say, "Well, people are stupid. They don't know what they are doing. All those various statistics lie. And all the times that people say what they see, that's a lie too. And maybe if we changed fighters to what I want them to be, then they wouldn't just be the most popular class, they'd be, um, the mostest popularest class."

But there's clearly a contingent of people that want the fighter as it is. Just like there are people that like the Rogue (the second-most popular class). In terms of revealed preferences among the player base, we know that people are choosing what WoTC is serving. At a certain point, we should probably say, "I appreciate that you have a different opinion. I hope that you get what you want. I also trust that you understand that others want what they want, and that you can understand that they wish to get what they want."

Luckily, there are a number of ways (from 3PP to homebrew to choosing a different system to play) for people to get what they want.

This thread direction is amusing since I once made a thread about giving the fighter some more social/exploration pillar stuff. I was told to "git gud at role play dood". 🤷‍♂️

Edit: Found it.
I watched a video yesterday where the guy arguing there was nothing wrong actually argued that the fighter can contribute to exploration by bringing a pickaxe and hacking through walls. The other guy asked him how long he thought it would take to pickaxe through a wall and dude was like 'I don't know, a few hours?"

Not only can the wizard just snap their fingers to blast through the wall, they could also sleep for 8 hours and prep the right spell and the fighter will still be at it.
