Elyan turned from 'reading' the runes to answer Karl's question with another one.

"Is anybody else bothered by the stench in here? 'Cos I know Rogue and I would really appreciate finding somewhere to bed down which didn't smell quite so strongly of rotting flesh. Call us fussy, if you will, but there we are!"

"By the way, these runes spell out 'Ashardalon' - but whether that's the name of the citadel, or its leader, or even of a local god, I'm afraid I couldn't tell you."

Grotzkoshter

Grotz shrugs when he hears the name
Maybe this door can lead us to a safe place
Grotzkoshter suggests, leans an ear on the door (in the bottom of the map, not the secret one) And if everything is quiet he tries to push it.

Karl shrugs to himself. If they want to push on, they want to push on. He draws his blade from its sheath and holds it ready for whatever is lurking on the other side of that door. He tries to wave Grotz away from the door, to look it over before it gets opened.

"Wait. Traps."

"Camping would be great."

"... or we could move on."

Before Karl can stop him, Grotz opens the wooden door in the southwestern tower shell. The masonry walls of the 20-foot wide and 40-foot long hall are in poor repair. The far end of the hall opposite Grotz's entry is especially bad, as it has completely collapsed, filling the southern section with rubble. The western wall is in much better shape than the other walls, and holds a stone door with a rearing dragon carved in relief upon it. The door contains a single keyhole, situated in the rearing dragon's open mouth.

Though Grotz's orcish eyesight easily penetrate the dark, the hall is entirely lightless. As Karl pushes toward the door, hoping to search it for traps, everyone hears a very loud crack and an ensuing boom from inside the new room. Grotz and Karl, closer to the southwestern door, are able to pinpoint the source of the sounds. A section of masonry from the hall's far ceiling has crashed to the floor and landed on the pile of rubble at the southern end.

Kiaphas moves in behind Grotz and Karl. "What was that sound? Is everyone alright?"

Karl lets his outstretched hand fall away as Grotz opens the door anyways, he sighs to himself, wincing at the sudden crack. But the fallen masonry doesn't seem like much of a trap. He peers over Grotz's shoulder, trying to get a look at the ceiling to see what fell away.

"What was that sound?" says Elyan, mimicking the cleric.

He grins and gestures Rogue to move forward.

"Now, that's my line - don't you go stealing it."

"They're fine - some rubble fell but it didn't hit them. If it had hit them, we would have heard a ... squashier sound. Besides, the stone fell at the other end of the room. The echo from the box of the chamber gives it a more hollow sound."

Karl looks into the room beyond the door that Grotz just opened and notes that a large flat section of stonework did indeed fall from the room's ceiling on the far end. A bare patch of mortar and irregular bits of stonework remain where the finished ceiling stonework had been just moments earlier. After the resounding boom of granite ceiling tiles falling to the rubble-strewn floor, the tower shell, outer courtyard, and the new room itself are now quiet as a grave. The light shed by Kiaphas's sunrod is pressed on all sides by a velvety blackness from the hall and tower.

In the quietude following the ceiling implosion, the door leading to the tower shell from the outer courtyard closes with an audible click. From somewhere back in the tower shell, Korgrave rumbles out, "There, that ought to hold usssssssssssssss for the time being." The half-orc, his head shaved bald but showing bits of stubble, stands in the middle of the tower, looking dejectedly at the others. "No moonlight in here. No snakesessssssssssss, either."
