CB's The Sunless Citadel v3.5

Yusadrayl stops her pantomime and again motions to the series of objects adorning her makeshift throne. "Feather nice, yes? Big shinies make nice, Yusadrayl make nice?"

Karl turns back to face his 'entourage' long out of his depth in these negotiations. He gives Elyan a hopeful look, but then realizes that such an expression is futile.

"Elyan, negotiate. I shall consider the goblin troubles."

"Small trees? It's clear that this song has some ... unexpected cadences." says the bard musingly.

Then, responding to Karl's "command", he half turns and says, "Kiaphas, come, be my outer eyes in this."

Turning back to Yusadrayl, he holds out his left hand and says, "Exalted one, of your kindness, lay on my hand that which you would offer us."

He begins to hum, lightly at first, but with increasing intensity, a long note which wavers into a slow, repeated melody. As he does so, he raises his right hand, fingers pointing up, and brings it alongside the item he has been offered.

[sblock=OOC]The object here is to convince Yusadrayl that the party may have more power than she at first thought. Make a Perform check (+10) to impress the kobold. At the moment it's just a song but it might segue into a spell, or a Fascinate attempt, depending on what is offered and how many things are offered. At some point he'll probably make Bardic Knowledge checks (+2) to recall anything useful about the types of objects Y offers. Kiaphas' descriptions are to help him in that.[/sblock]

When Elyan begins to hum, Yusadrayl is at first startled but then sits down on her throne to listen intently to the human's thrumming voice. The spear tips of the six kobold bounders guarding the chieftess likewise droop a notch or two at Elyan's entrancing voice. Meepo, who had heretofor been lingering behind Grotzkoshter's knees, scuttles forward a bit and pokes his head out to watch Elyan. By the end of the long melodic hummed note, one of the six bounders down in front is positively vibrating with excitement. The creature's uncontained bobbing irritates Yusadrayl and the chieftess lashes out at the hapless kobold with a spell. Elyan and Kiaphas both recognize the spell as ray of frost. The kobold bounder targeted by the spell is hit in the back of the head by shards of ice, and the little creature's scaled horns are soon rimmed in frost. Turning around to face his mistress, the bounder grovels and begs for forgivenss in draconic.

Ignoring the irritation at her feet, Yusadrayl turns back to Elyan. "Human no-see sing nice, yes? Yusadrayl offer half-orc chief feather? Nice feather, make big tree for you." The kobold chieftess picks up the feather off the back of her throne and holds it aloft, offering it to Elyan. "Yous bigguns take feather, get rid gobbos. Bring gobbo chieftain head, Yusadrayl give more nice?" Yusadrayl looks hopefully at Elyan. "Mebbe human no-see sing nice more?"

When no one replies, Yusadrayl looks a bit crestfallen. "Yous no like Yusadrayl's clan's barter?" The kobold chieftess snaps her finger and barks at one of her six bounders.

[sblock=Draconic] "Fetch the meat! They might be hungry." [/sblock]

The bounder darts away around the corner into a passageway on the long hall's left side, then returns in moments carrying a small iron pot. The kobold bounder eagerly offers the pot around. Inside, a scaly clawed hand and a horn float up to the top of some sort of oily stew that smells of lard and eggs. Yusadrayl says, "Yous no barter, mebbe yous hungry? Kobold stew?"

Karl blanches at sight of the kobolds' offerring and mimes a full stomach.

"Just ate."

He looks around at his companions, searching them for help. Eventually he turns to Yusadryl and gestures around to his friends.

"A moment to discuss? Private."

Yusadrayl nods in complete understanding and sits down on her throne. The kobold's narrow eyes flit from Karl to his "advisors" as the chieftess obviously strains to listen in on the conversation. At a snap of her clawed fingers, the bounder with the pot hops up on the dais. Yusadrayl smacks her chops then delicately fishes out the horn and begins to suck and gnaw on the meaty end.

Elyan joins the others. Pitching his voice to reach their ears and no further, he says, "Yusadrayl seems a strong leader. I like her spirit. We might agree to help her - although she hasn't yet mentioned the dragon. And I wouldn't necessarily trust her to keep her end of the bargain once we've done what she wants."

"I'm concerned about this 'Outcast'. Who is he and where does he fit? And what are these fruits she mentions? If he is allied with the goblins it's a fair bet that he won't welcome us with open arms."

"I say we challenge Yusadrayl about their dragon, find out as much information as we can, and then, if it seems like a good idea, agree to help her. It may be that, if we can defeat their opponents, they will be sufficiently awed to keep to any bargain we make. Still, I wouldn't count on it. But it does seem that our way forward lies through goblin territory, whatever we decide."

"And of course, there is the fact that, having walked into the kobold's stronghold, they may not take too kindly to us leaving again without making some pledge of assistance."

Grotzkoshter

Scratching his head with a puzzled look Grotz replies
Hmm…OK, tell her we want all the items for killing goblins and bring the dragon back.
He then walks over to the bowl and fish a piece of the kobold meat from the stew.
