CB's The Sunless Citadel v3.5

Kaeleen : Elven Cleric of Corellon Larethian

Kaeleen moves after the others and once there speaks her warning. "It looks like we will have company soon. I heard the sound of war drums heading this way."

Elyan asks, "Is that wall we clambered over any good to us as a defensive feature? If not, do we have somewhere where they can't come at us from both sides?"

Grotzkoshter

While cleaning his face from the goblin's blood, Grotz turns to hear the drums and calls.
We should move, quickly and down this room, let them guess what hit them like a shadow and vanished, that will terrify them to the bone.

There are two half-walls in the last two rooms. Anyone approaching from the west or the east would have to climb over either half-wall to get to the party at the present moment. The war drums are approaching from the west. The group did pass by several other doors while walking down the length of the pillared hall until their present location: four doors in the pillared hall, one door by the fire pit where the four goblins were killed, one door just past the half-wall in this area, and you guys can all see a last door across this second half-wall. All the doors are on the attached map. Choices for where to go include any of those doors (though backtracking into the pillared room probably means running into who or whatever is banging that war drum), or staying put and laying an ambush. Let me know you guys' preference.

The four companions and Rogue and Meepo climb back over the half-wall. Kaeleen closes the door on the west wall and Karl begins hurriedly searching the door on the north wall to the side of the fire pit. Stepping over a dead goblin and leaning in for a good listen on the wooden door, Karl detects no traps but finds that the door is locked. A few moments later and a dose of Karl's handiwork, and the north door hangs open, the lock picked. In the bright light of the torch ensconced in the wall, the group can see and smell the room; a layer of filth and dust covers the room and a pile of bone fragments in the near corner by a rat's nest speaks of the occasional inhabitant. The room sports three doors: the one through which the group just came, a door on the north wall, and a door 25 feet down the hall. Once everyone is through, Kaeleen quickly closes the door.

The door can probably be re-locked if Karl wants to try.

Kaeleen : Elven Cleric of Corellon Larethian

Kaeleen whispers to her companions. "What now?"

With the door closed, Karl hastily re-locks it. A minute later, the wardrum grows very loud and the gobbledy-gook of goblin voices can be heard nattering in the room with the half-wall and fire pit. Karl, Grotz, Kaeleen, and Elyan tightly grasp their weapons and tense for the door to open, but it never does. Rogue bristles as a hobgoblin outside the door barks something quite loudly, then the entire war party evidently turns and trudges back the way they came, their drum quiet this time.

Several long minutes later, when things have again grown quiet, Karl is the first to speak. "Well, that was close. I'll try the door at the end of the hall." Karl sets about searching the floor of the hall and, ten feet before the door at the end of the hall, comes to an abrupt stop with a low whistle. "Found something, alright. Looks like another trap." Pushing at a bit of stone, Karl wedges a loose flagstone into a crevice so that the flagstone stands upright. "Don't trip on that tile." Pointing to a 10-foot square section in front of the door at the end, Karl says, "There's a pit trap just there. I've wedged that stone in so that it should keep the floor steady. We can cross, I think."

The door on the other side is locked. Taking two attempts to pick the lock, Karl at last opens the bolt securing the door. Opening the door itself, reveals an oddity of a room beyond. Mounted and stuffed animal heads adorn the walls. The mounting job is sloppy, and the assortment of heads includes cattle, rats, and other not particularly impressive specimens. A few gristly trophies do, however, share the wall with the rest of the animals: six kobold heads and one hobgoblin head are mounted along the southern walls, mute victims of some sort of rampage. A rusted iron spike stands askew in the center of the room, trialing a broken chain. Thin patches of ice coat sections of the walls and floor, and the air inside the room accosts the group with its cold frost.

Just a few steps into the room, a small winged creature with white scales, a beaked nose, spiny dewlaps, and a small white crest supported by a single, back-curving spine rises from behind a pile of debris in the room. The miniature dragon's scales glisten like snow in the deep of winter. Meepo has time to squeak out, "Calcryx!" just once in Draconic before a cone of cold evelopes the group.

Karl, Kaeleen, and Elyan react on instinct (Elyan hearing the wings flap and heeding Meepo's brief warning) and dodge the dragon's cold blast, taking only 2 points of cold damage each. Grotzkoshter and Meepo, however, are caught by surprise and covered in the small dragon's frosty breath, and take 4 points of damage each. Meepo keels over, covered in a blanket of thick hoary frost.

The dragon alights on the floor in front of Grotz, its talons out, and hisses.

Surprise round over.

Initiative:
Elyan 20
Karl 18
Kaeleen 12
Calcryx 11
Grotzkoshter 8

Brrr….
Very angry, Grotz teeth clack as he tries to shake the frosty feeling away.
He raise his weapon and swings at the creature, trying to wound him but not kill him

Kaeleen : Elven Cleric of Corellon Larethian

Kaeleen moves over to the collapsed kobold and channels a minor cure spell to help stabilize him.

OOC: Dropped Light spell for a cure minor wounds on Meepo. From earlier when she healed Elyan she dropped her Summon Monster I spell. Also CB, when you posted damage from the breath weapon, you show Karl in both the group that saved and the group that didn't.
