I forgot to give Grotz his cleave. Sorry.

Ere Karl can adjust the grip on his short sword and heft the weapon to the side for another swing at the large and snarling lone rat left alive in the room, Grotzkoshter yops barbarously and, with a clean arcing schwing of his greataxe, slices the first rat for 9 points of damage. With a grunt and a pop, the rat falls to the floor in a pool of its blood and entrails.

In the aftermath of the short battle, the group gets a closer look at the new room. Tattered hides form six unstable hammocks around a much-used fire pit. Battered cooking equipment lies mixed indiscriminantly with broken or worn arms and armor. Beside the one door through which Karl and Grotz just arrived, no other means of egress is seen.

Karl scowls down at the decimated rats and brushes a few droplets of blood off his clothing, giving Grotz an exasperated look. He sets to investigating the room, starting with the dead goblin and the rats' playthings.

Karl soon finds a crack in the wall of the room's northwest corner through which the dog-sized oil-slicked rats must surely have squeezed. Dropping down on one knee to have a look, Karl finds bits of fluff, gnawed-on bones, scraps of leather worried by ratling teeth, and what looks like a fairly fresh goblin thumb chewed clean from its appendage. A lone goblin corpse lying prostrate along the room's southern wall is missing an arm, probably confirmation that the thumb originated from that particular specimen.

Deciding to risk a rat bite by sticking his lanky arm down the hole, Karl is rewarded for his effort by fishing out a small round disc of polished blue glass with a stylized wave stamped dead center into the metal. The bit of glass hangs on a length of black cord. After that, Karl hauls out a silvered dagger with a lapis lazuli inset in the pommel. The blade of the dagger is chased in gold with the same wave pattern sported on the necklace. A rapier, plain enough but serviceable, and a hand axe follow suit.

Karl gingerly sets down the items he recovered. Crossing his arms with a grunt, the half-orc nods in agreement with Grotzkoshter. "I've slept enough. But I want to have a look at what we've found while down here...there may be a clue in them as to the whereabouts of the girl and her brother. You do whatever you elves do, Kaeleen, and I'll keep an ear pricked for trouble in the meantime."

Karl crouches down to have a look at the corded necklace, silver dagger, and rapier. "Grotz, where's that ring you picked up? And don't you have some unusual coins, Elyan? Pony up with whatever you got."
